Filter media cup overflowing.

Howdy,

I feel like I know the solution to this problem but I'm wondering if someone else has a better or easier solution.

My return from my overflow into my media cup is coming in faster than my media cup is willing to allow water through and it's causing spillover. I replace the floss as regular as possible once a week?

I'm debating if I should just add a y at the bottom and have it meet two media cups to split the flow? Thoughts ?

add a gate valve to from return pump.
I have a gate valve on the return from the overflow. I am not sure I'd want one coming out of the return pump.. would put some serious flow restrictions and I would not get the flow from the pump i'd like.

Am I not understanding what I am looking at. Or is that a 4 inch cup in a 7 inch hole. If so. Bigger cup dude

Ahhhhh I figured out the layout. I didn’t understand that box but now I do. What Issa the diameter of the hole the feed pipe is passing thru at the top of the box.

I bought the sump this way... I am not sure if it's standard this way or if it's custom. The top hole is less than 4" so maybe around 3?

Definitely. I can tell you I use three four inch cups and love it. It’s not that I couldn’t do it with less. But it allows the flow thru each one to be 1/3 as turbulent so it really catches everything. Nothing is forced through the media.

That is what I am feeling right now - that the water if being forced through which in turn is causing my filtration to be less than effective. How did you mount your cup holders? Do you have a picture? Homemade or bought similar to the link I provided?

If you have a chemipure bag in the cup it may be clogging the flow. It happens to me at times if the holes in the cup are blocked.

I made my sump. Pretty standard fare. 40 gallon breeder. With a standard l shelf siliconed in and three holes for the cups. Standard stuff nothing special. Nothing to it. If you need a pic. I’ll take one tonight

What did you make the shelf out of? PVC sheet? I think that's the move I am going to make.

I made the tank divider out of glass and used a plastic cutting board for the holes for the cups. I did this because it food safe, cheep, strong because it’s thick and safer to pull things in and out of than glass

I have the 7" cup and have a bag for carbon and purigen in it. I add floss on top. Overflows when they get dirty. Try switching out more often.
