Finally - after nine years of waiting!

Right where I can watch closely. My nine year old pair of ocellaris clowns have finally laid eggs!

Pretty fancy plankton for my softie tank!

Grats! I think your clowns took a long time to decide if their relationship was stable enough though ::)

One of the hazards of living with clergy!

Thanks for the conrats everyone. I'll be checking out all the clown beering info this week.

I am going to try and snag some when they hatch. I know feeding is an issue, but I'll see if I can come up some rotifers in the interim.

Not sure what the status is today. The LTA has expanded over their spot, but the male seems to still be tending them.

Re: Finally - after nine years of waiting! HELP!!

So I resurrected this thread to establish a timeline.

After 3 months of spawning, my female has stopped eating for the last four or five days and the male is only picking occasionally.

Their only tankmate is a Cherub Angel who is doing fine. The last time I added anything to the tank was an acro from the AO anniversary sale and some snails from the recent Reetopia buy.

My usual foods are a mix of frozen mysis, cyclopeeze and San Francisco Bay Angel and Butterfly formula with garlic extreme and selcon; Hikarai Marine-S; and various Ocean Nutrition flakes.

There are no visual problems or symptoms of distress.

I'll do a complete parameter check tomorrow, but things have been pretty stable. I noticed the change a day after a water change, but that batch of water was used on 2 other tanks and everyone is fine. Salt is Tropic Marin and the same bucket was in use since October. I use RO/DI and the TDS is 0.

All corals are doing well.

Thoughts??

The eggs were there the day I noticed. Still orange so they were fresh. She does seem to be paying more attention to the eggs than before.

They might be getting ready to hatch. Im not sure it sounds odd

What struck me as odd is this is about the fourth batch they have laid and she has been eating normal all along. He didn't eat much the first batch or two. I'll keep an eye on them and just keep tyring to get them to eat.

Thanks for the feedback, Barry.

Bill you enough space downstairs... raise those bad boys.

also if you want i can drop off joyce wilkersons book for you.

My old pair of CB percs used to not eat 1-2 days before they would spawn. I never did a water change though while they were tending to eggs. You might have just stresed them a little.

The eggs will be down for 11-14 days (depending on temperature and other factors), so it is too soon to be close to hatch time. I'm surprised that just after she laid down the eggs she wouldn't have been eating as the process of laying eggs is taxing to them.

Did the eggs change colors properly, along the same time line as the last batch? Maybe she has some concern over this batch or is becoming more maternal? My female left the male to care for the nest for the most part. Are they quarreling? Or acting fairly normal?

If she had a favorite food, you could try that. Hopefully she'll snap out of it before she suffers any from her hunger strike.

Hey Phyl,

They haven't been quarreling at all. He did all the work the first few batches and now they are joined at the hip. She is tending the eggs. I'll check and see if they are changing when I get home. The cycle is slower because the tank runs at 77-78.

She always ate everything with equal gusto! I'll try to add a few new goodies to the frozen mix. She looks OK, maybe a little thinner. I really hope she comes around as they have become family members. We have had the pair for ten years now.

Thanks for the ideas.

The book would be great Barry!

I was planning on setting up to raise them. I'm starting to get things in order for my cultures. Let's hope this is just a case of her getting wrapped up in tending the eggs.
