First post, saying hi

Im glad I came across a local site with reef keeping in mind. My names John, and I currently live in Hackensack, 07601. I have 2 freshwater tanks (Mixed Africans and shelldwellers) and have some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket, the gf gave me the idea of saltwater...So after a little living room re arrangement, I magically found the room! So Im new to the scene, but have been reading alot about it all for the past week or so. Im also in the market for setups, if anyones looking to get out of the hobby. Space is kinda of an issue, 55 gal max, but the tank needs a lid (crazy cats) and stand. I have been looking at the Biocubes/Aquapods, but have read bad things. So any help is appreciated, and once again saying hi!

Welcome to the hobby, you will have a great time. The nano cubes are actually pretty nice to have and are a good starter kit becuase they are plug and play. If you have a lot of birthday cash you might want to look into the red sea tanks. They come in 35 and 65 gallon and are great systems to start with. If you are a more DIY type of person, you can always build your own which will probably be cheaper. I have been really into the hobby since November and I love it.

i suggest a 40 breeder over a 55 because the 40 is wider and easier to aquascape. use the 55 as the sump ;)

I agree... 55 is a nice freshwater size, but makes a poor reef tank, a 40g breeder is nice or if you can handle just a little more width that the 55... a 75 is even nicer.

I'm a couple of towns from you, let me know if you need any help when you start building up.

Welcome, John. I know what you mean about rearranging - our dining room needed some rather creative changes to fit the 75 gal.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I actually came across a used 24 gal nano the other day, and am in the process of replacing the lights and fan before I get it running. Patience patience!
