Fish help!

Hi,
Last night:
1. My Kole Tang started floating around the bottom of the tank tail up. Could barely swim. I moved her to my refugium so she wouldn't get tossed around. She looks like she has scratches on her side but that's it. Any Idea???? she is looking better now.

2. My harbor goby also started acting weird but with him, he has one eye that might be bulging (hard to tell). He did not go tail up like the tang but was just hanging out at the bottom not going to his burrows and was not eating like usual. Any help???

My puffer( very timid) and the blood shrimp seem fine.

Could the blood shrimp be attacking the fish?

Thank you,
Christine

Christine,

It is very unlikely that the blood shrimp is attacking them. Blood shrimp are actually a type of cleaner shrimp as well so they usually help the fish out not attack them.

Other than that Im not sure what it may be. With the Kole maybe it got the scratches by trying to swim and scraped agains the rocks with what sounds like a swim bladder problem.

thanks for the help. I just put him back in the DT because the fuge is a bit cramped. he is horizontal now but still a little off. The puffer seems fine. I left the goby in the fuge for now.

What kind of puffer is it? I know you say it is very timid, if I had to guess who was causing problems in your tank I would say puffer.

Did you test ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates?

Swollen eye, aka popeye, is usually the result of a bacteria infection. The infection could be the result of an injury to the eye or any number of things. If the condition doesn't improve in the next few days you will want to consider setting up a hospital tank and treating with antibiotics.

Thank you everyone.
It is a dog faced puffer(about 3-4") and she is definitely not aggressive in any way. She was my first fish and doesn't even look at the snails or shrimp other that to run away if they get to close. the tang is still acting strange but is swimming normally.
As i said her and the goby were the only things in the tank that looked sick.

Ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are fine but because i'm paranoid i went out and got bio spira and their natural nitrate redeucer bacteria just to be safe. I also added a little amquel plus just in case it is my top off water. The water in my area has been having problems and they have been doing who knows what but they have been working on the tank that supplies the water to my area. My RODI is not for chloramine and i am hoping they did not move up the date for the change over.

I also added an air pump with 3 stones in my return section of the sump just to increase aeration but I am waiting for the water to be ready to do a water change as well. Is it ok that i put the stones in the return section?
Luckily i have a 10 gallon tank lying around if i need to put the goby in there. I just need to set it up.

Is anyone else having issues replying? The little circle thing keeps going around and does not stop. I have to hit the refresh button and hopes it goes through. It is still spinning from when i hit the reply button.

Skimmer is running the same even after the amquel. I am so paranoid about ammonia that i just don't trust my 2 stupid tests that never read the same thing. I would rather be safe than lose one of my little guys.
