Flags Flown Have Mast ...Really?

I think that lowering the flag for Whitney Houston is ridiculous. A marine from nj was killed in Afghanistan a day before Whitney Houston's death and how many have heard that news? Is the flag at half staff for a person who was defending this country and the flag? There is certain criteria for lowering the flag and this does not meet any of them.

I haven't commented here cause frankly don't care either way. But, it is my understanding that the governor of a state can't make the call to send American flags to Half mast. The state flag yes. I could be wrong though.

I agree with most of the posts so far.The flag flown at half mast should be for soldiers, firemen, police, government officials etc.Im sure we could find other ways to acknowledge singers, actors etc.But as most of us know prescript drugs are becoming a very big issue in the U.S.I think that no matter how or who the people are there should be changes set in advance for people who are prescribed these kind of addicting meds. Here is what I see on how it works-Get hurt, get meds, get better,go home..it shouldnt just stop there. How many times of recent have we heard of Doctors prescribing meds that arent needed. The government needs to step in to regulate and hold accountable the doctors who are becoming the drug pushers.

Again - i think people are focused more on this now because it's whitney. But would you argue she is a bigger star from NJ than a member of Bruce Springsteen's band?

Guess he is in fact recognizing the troops. You just don't hear about it cause they are no "famous".
As far as the arguement as whether she is a bigger star from NJ then any member of E St band, I don't think so, not even close. Did not even know she was from NJ till 4 days ago. Im sure she did a lot for the state to deserve such an honor:rolleyes:

Wondering if there is any legal ramifications for private or public facilities that do not fly their flag as requested??

LMAO...That'll give RAMification a whole new meaning!

just another dead junkie!

my first wife went to high school with her at st veronicas, we dated from when we were teens, and i remember her as being a drunk
obnoxious pos before she was famous from the parties she was at. for the record, my first wife is just as messed up as houston,

i come from a well to do working class family, my parents worked hard for their money, and gave us kids little, but lots of advice,
my 1st wife took life for granted and squandered millions her parents left to her, now she lives in a homeless shelter, last i heard,

my present wife and i work for what we got, we give our kids only the things they need, if they want xbox stuff, or toys or games,
they have to earn it, they had basic cell phones, they wanted i phones, and they worked extra and earned it, they know they will get
nothing they dont work for.

this pos, to be honored? with flags at half mast? what do you expect from a governor who has cut police force funding, and is on a daily
basis attacking the educators in this state?

this state, and this country are in a sad state of affairs.

end rant

o, and p.s. my flag flew high and proud at full mast,
and she has lived in florida for the last 20 or so years, they should fly the flag half mast for her there.
and they can keep the drug laden corpse too!!!!
