Flow Rate Question

Hello everyone,

I just got myself a rio 2500+ for my return and since I got it I can't seem to get my flow into my sump to match the flow going out.

Any tips on how to fix this issue? I am doing tiny tweaks on both my in pipe and out pipe with a ball valve that I have placed but no luck in matching the flow.

What kind of drain system are you using (hang-on, durso, herbie etc)? In normal circumstances there shouldn't be any issues with "matching" flow rates between drain and return. As long as your pump isn't pushing more water than the drain can handle, the water being pumped into the tank will go through the drain and into the sump.

Sorry I'm not good with the terms as I'm still new but I made a pvc overflow. If my return is faster than the drain my pump starts to suck in air. If my drain is faster then....overflow.

Is air sucking into the return ok?

I attached a few pictures.

Hmmm. I would say put a ball valve on your return line to regulate the flow. Sorry I'm not at all familiar with that style overflow. I would also suggest removing the brass valve on you drain. Metal especially cooper and brass don't mix well with saltwater

It's hard to tell by your pic. Do you know if you have full flow thru your U tube(the highest u on the pipe coming out the tank). Usually you would have to feed an air line tubing up to the higest top and suck the air out, or drill a hole there and put a air tube, valve, then another tube to suck the air out.
