For those who lost their tanks - Free Frags

Hello Fellow Reefers

I know there have been a lot of reefers on this forum who have lost their tanks to Sandy. It is very disheartening to see the tank crash when each one of us care for our tanks so much.

In the spirit of helping those who lost everything, I have decided to donate SPS frags to help rebuild.

At this time I will be fragging

Large Aussie Pink Acro colony. I can frag about 10 - 12 pieces
4 - 5 frags of ORA Orange Digi Frags.
4 - 5 frags of ORA Valida TriColor.
2 - 3 frags of ORA Plum Crazy

I will frag this weekend they will be ready for pickup in about two weeks.

If you plan on restarting the tanks, reply to this thread of what you would like.

This is a great hobby and an even better community. So put your chin up and start the rebuild.

P.S ==> HerbieK is NOT allowed to reply to this thread. I am still so very sad to hear about his tank. He has given a lot to this hobby. I will make a special frag pack for him when he is ready.

This is a very nice gesture. People like you and many others who have decided to help out are the reason I'm staying in the hobby. I told my girlfriend during the storm that I was done if I came home to a dead tank. However, I changed my mind when I saw people pulling together to help people who need it.

I know many have talked about this, finally someone has started a thread. So after getting Sunny's approval to add some things I also would like to make available some corals.

Reaching out to less fortunate fellow hobbyists is certainly admirable, and I salute you. I've lost all my fish, except one clownfish that I was babysitting. I've lost all my anemones, except the one that I was babysitting. All my Chalices are gone. Most of my Acros are gone. My Gorgonians are gone. My Montiporas seem to have survived. My Dragon's Breath and Chaeto survived. Oddly enough I pulled out all the Grape Caulerpa on Monday morning because it had "gone sexual" - I hope none of it survived. Same goes for my Aiptasia.

Anyway, I've been doing massive water changes, but don't think I'll be adding frags or cutting frags until the systems are suitably stable sometime down the road...

Bob let us know when you are ready, we will take care of you.

I can tell you it does suck. I had just started my new 40 breeder. My 90 gal was full of beautiful corals, mushrooms, zoas, sps, lps, a huge bubble coral, and about 8" round beautiful hammer. Everything is lost after 4 days without power. All the money, hard work, everything gone out the window. I just got power back and trying to get back to normal but i keep passing my tanks wondering if i will even start these tanks again. Now i am happy my family and friends are safe, i also realize many people still don't have power. I know what they are going through. Good idea and i hope it works. Good luck guys... Sorry I forgot to mention, I live in Orange County, NY. I have friends and family in Ocean County, Monmouth County and Atlantic City, NJ. Many are still without power. I am grateful that everyone is safe. As for me, I discarded my corals, inverts, nems, livestock, etc. I figured this would be a great way to start over. I just wish i took a picture of the dead tank but i didn't want to be reminded of it. Right now my main focus is attacking the tank. So far i have started to make new water and washed the live rock in fresh sw. I am anticipating a small cycle so will be going through the whole babysitting phase again for that time. After that, I decided I will rebuild and will be looking for good deals to buy to start up again. If anyone knows of anyone selling cheap frags to Getty me started, I am interested in buying. I already miss my bubble corals, hammers, toadstool, duncans, ppe rastas hornets and all my other zoas, frogspawn, acros, palys, everything. Ugh, I hate thinking about it. Well, thanks for letting me rant here. Here are a few pictures of my tanks covered the day after the lights went out. I guess it may have worked for a while but after the house got to 55 degrees i knew there was no more hope. Thanks again all. One picture showed my trying to keep the water warm with 36 hr shipping heat packs. Lol, that didn't work so well. The kids were in good spirits though. If only my fireplace actually worked in stead of just looking pretty... Last one is of my newly found refrigerator (outside). Just for smiles. Thanks all.

Mike :)

I don't have much in my tank, but I do have some things to offer.

Torch frags
Frogspawn (green with purple tips and lemon lime)
Pink zoas
Small acan frag (about four heads nothing fancy about it)
mushrooms (not sure of the name)
anthellia
GSP

Depending on when the tank is ready, I might have more frags. I am currently growing out a miami hurricane chalice, grape watermelon chalice, pink chalice and some zoas (JF fruit loops).

Let me know when you are ready. Taking care of each other and helping out is what this hobby is about.
Sorry for your losses, but you should try to look towards the brighter side.

I just got in to work, first time I'm able to post anything since the storm. I still don't have power (maybe another week), lost 3/4 of my SPS but life goes on. I wanted to thank Ed. Ed with all you have going on in your life I was amazed that you were on the road looking to help your fellow reefers! For you who don't know Ed had power so he loaded up 30 gals of gas and a generator and went on the road looking for someone to help. You my friend are what NJRC is all about and I just wanted tro thank you for being there!
