Jim, I'm sure you were asking John... but mine were bare metal before I dipped.

Acually, I was looking for a response from either/both.

Jim, mine were epoxy coated from the company. Then I coated it 4 coats of dip. They were well sealed. Water finds a way. My recommendation would be to remove these magnets. Don't forget they also contain copper.

The ones I used are ceramic magnets. They are made from iron oxide in a ceramic composite. No copper (that I know of) but still, iron isn't the best thing for a reef tank either. Paul B might disagree with that, but he's not one to agree with all the popular beliefs.
