Frag tank algae ?

Howdy,

So my frag tank is cycled for a while now and I have a six line wrasse and one utter chaos frag..

I have algae growing on it as well as my egg crate but can't seem to guess what it is. I think the brown on the egg crate is diatom and the alage on the frag idk. I want to add a lawnmower blenny but I'm not sure the tank is ready for one yet. The coral came from my 30 AIO which doesn't have any algae problems but bubble algae which I'm working on.

Here's two pictures

Please don’t take this wrong. But I don’t understand the problem. You have a very new tank. With a fish that I am certain you feed and you have a little algae. That sounds 100 percent normal. At this point I wouldn’t worry about it in the slightest

I'm not worried. I guess my question was is it too early to put a lanwmower blenny?

It's probably about 3 months old at this point

Ok gotcha. I would say NO unless you want to add algae sheets for it to eat. Of course they will eat just about anything (or at least mine does). But it still grazes all day long. So I would hold off on a fish that seems like an obligate grazer till there is a little more stuff for it to pick at to keep it happy

What do we mean black? Like spray paint it ? Or

Nooooooo don’t paint it. Egg crate is really a light diffuser for a 2 x 4 fluorescent light. And it comes in several colors including Crome. But as kraken pointed out. Black being best for our application.

I mean in theory you could probably spray paint it matte black. Easier to just buy

I would strongly recommend against it. You're going to be pulling frag plugs in and out of it, your fish will peck at it...too much risk and likely long term cost than just coughing up the $15 in the short term. I'd leave it white and just deal with the algae before I'd paint it.

I will take your advice & replace them with the black ones before I start to add abundance of frags. Thanks guys.

Eggcrate is such a pain in the butt to deal with. Algae grows on it in every corner. You'll have much less maintenance if you go with a frag rack. You can buy them made of acrylic, or make them yourself. If you only have to make a couple, buy PVC sheets on amazon and drill the holes. I was able to make one in about two beers time.

The rest I had another club member make me for trading coral.

I love your unit of measurement for time haha. I will be using that for sure.

The worst part is the egg crate was like 30 bucks - I built a holder for my marine pure spheres out of it too... I'm wondering if that should be replaced now too. I'll look into the PVC sheets on Amazon and drill. Doesn't have to look beautiful just hold and grow my precious babies

my job deals with alot of plexiglass clear and black so i usually make all my stuff from that heat it bend it drill holes in it i make sumps, filters, water containers pretty much everything out of it haha always take the scraps they throw out fun little projects gonna be making a replica of one of those fancy $500 sumps for literally free i use black mostly for anything that gets in contact with my light and barely get any build up on it specially cause its smooth could just rinse or wipe it down easily

Everything I have is 1/4 I believe, I like them to be 12x8 as it allows me freedom to move them around.
The ones I built were PVC, the acrylic ones were made for me by a club member. They were 1/4 also.

My six line loves swimming through the holes - only reason I like the egg crate. Makes me wanna just go with black one instead of acyllic or pvc
