It sits on my SPS.
My SPS doesn't like that.
I don't have a picture.
Imagine a yellow clown goby.
It looks like that.
Pick up in Brick.

What exactly happens to the coral when the goby sits on them. Do they just close there polyps. Or is there die off directly related to his contact.

I don't have a solid answer.
He did nip at a specific small SPS frag, when it was gone he didn't go after any more.
He did seem to nibble and try a few others, but overall had no interest. I thought/think it might be a species thing.
I have read that they will occasionally nip at some types of SPS, and if the SPS is established it shouldn't be a concern for a colony over a few inches across, as the nipping will not really effect the colony. But, if its a frag, or under 2" across, it can be a concern, as the 'minor picking' is enough to be detrimental to the coral. MIne was a tiny 1" frag.
He then took to sitting on an acro, but not eating it) and the area he was sitting on appears to be dead.
I was still 'sorta' Ok with him until he stated chasing and nipping my immature filefish (tiny).
The filefish cruises the rocks for pods and the goby was getting territorial around the corals, actually took a chunk from its tail.
It's an up in the air thing.
If you have fish under 3/4" it may be aggressive.
If you have a random SPS it likes, it may nibble.
If you have an inviting SPS with horizontal surfaces, it may lounge.
But its dumb as (expletive of choice) if you need to catch it. Took me 30 seconds in a bottle trap.

Yellow Clown Gobies eat SPS, its part of their natural diet. if you have healthy large colonies, it shouldnt affect them too much but if you have only frags, the Goby can clean them out quick.

@iTzJu is that just true about Yellow clown gobies or most gobies? Don't want to buy a goby in the future if that is what most do.

I'm pretty sure it's only the yellow clowns.
And to elaborate a bit more they specifically feed on the mucous of some acros. They no at the polyps to cause it to slime up. In the process yes killing smaller colonies. Larger ones can usually handle it.
I had one in a tank a while back, it was a horror. Luckily it was only a 20g and it was easily removed.

I am having the same exact problem. It has been laying on my prized acans and they have not been happy at all. I banishe him to the sump. Will be getting rid of him, maybe donating to LFS or giving him away. If anyone wants it PM me. SOrry for stealing your thread!
