I dialed back the light intensity on the scrubber and increased the photo period from 12 to 14hrs on a reverse schedule to boost the pH when the lights are off.

I bought some frags from Ocean Gallery II over the weekend, two montipora, bird's nest, chalice and acan lord. Also got a neon green cyphastrea I think.

I forget where but I read a discussion about light and pH and someone showed that lighting your sump doesn't affect your pH. I will try and search for that discussion
Awesome I look forward to the information. I looked over the pH data on the Apex compared to when my Scrubber light is on. The pH dips at night, but not drastically. I will see how the increased growth and photo period impacts the tanks pH.

Thanks, it has come along quite well. Biggest difference between my old 54G is that I have been patient with the setup and stocking of the tank.

So its the plants not the light for the pH. Now the light is for the plant which in turns help the pH but the light doesn't directly affect pH as far as I know. Had not found that discussion yet
Correct actual light has not affect on PH. But the whole photosynthesis thing does. Marine depot has a couple videos on cheato , lighting and nutrient export that are pretty good. Not that I would spend what they are suggesting on lighting but they are pretty decent.

Things have been hectic the last three weeks. Our third child was born, hopefully a future reefer.
I bought a yellow tang and it is currently in the QT under observation.
I have been able to look over my test results for the tank in order to make an assessment of my filtration approach at roughly the six month mark. I use four filter socks in the sump, one on the drain lines to muffle the sound and three thereafter to aide in mechanical filtration, I replace them once a week during my tank maintenance. I have 2x Marine Pure 8"x 8"x 1" and 1x 8"x 8"x 4" blocks in the sump after the filter socks, I did this so I could get away with a more open rock work and no sand bed. I am running a DC protein skimmer that I have running at about 60% and an algae scrubber that runs for about 14 hrs on a reverse schedule. I've done a 5 gallon water change every two weeks. I plan on doing them every three going forward. The bioload in the tank is light to medium, four clowns, three chromis and a firefish. I feed my LPS and anemones regularly, about three times a week.
I use the Nyos nitrate test kit and to date they are almost undetectable, I log a result of 1 on the Apex because it reads between zero and 1. Phosphates read .02 when I started to test for them and have averaged .05 since January.
I am pleased with the results so far. The algae scrubber out-competes any algae in the DT that tries to take hold. I clean the screen once a week and in the past two weeks the growth has really picked up. I occasionally put some carbon in the sump.
My CUC is comprised of two turbo grazers, numerous red trochus snails, the three I added have bred like crazy in the tank, about four astrea snails, some small ceriths that hitchhiked on coral. There are tons of sotmatella snails that have bred from a couple i picked up for free from allquatics months ago. I am a fan of those snails for sure. I have several nassarius snails that have bred as well, two blue leg hermits and an emerald crab.
Equipment update:
I added a second MP40 to the tank and I am pleased with the varied flow patterns I am able to make in the tank now.
I replaced my JBJ ATO with the Neptune Systems ATK, I like it so far.
I am planning on getting a dosing systems soon to complete the load out for the tank.

On the positive side they have changed colors, one from a brown to light blue/ purple, the other changed from a reddish brown to a pink polyps, however both have less polyp extension and seemed stressed. I moved one out of direct flow from my MP40. I have dialed back both the algae scrubber and protein skimmer to see if there is any impact.

I have a purple dottyback and hippo tang in QT.
Parameters are stable, since I dialed back the filtration there has been a modest rise in phosphates from 0.00 to 0.03, nitrates remain around 1.
