Giant Eel

To anyone in the south jersey area, Aquarium Center just had a customer donate a 3-4ft long Green Eel(not sure of the correct name). This thing is so awesome looking. Its a beefy guy too, no skinny regular eel lol Just figured I'd let ppl know if they were stopping in to give it a look :)

I was there Thursday and was walking fro the back of the store down that isle. It made me jump a bit! That thing is HUGE!!! Did they price it yet? They didn't have a price on it because it had a cloudy eye.

My daughter's been begging me to a green moray for her tank but I don't think I want to take one on. But that would be perfect.

Just talked to my guy, he said there isn't a price yet, he's waiting for the right offer Lol thing is enormous though

it was donated!! i hope that lfs will kick something back to the original owner. if not, that lfs shouldn't try to make such a huge profit.

I saw it too! They also had/have a goldflake angel and a Achilles tang. Guessing you would need a 250-300 gallon? They are a business after all since when cant a business make a profit? Not defending ac by any means, I have seen workers sell whatever people want without asking if they have the correct equipment for that fish/coral/invert ect. I hate it most when someone is about to buy a juv trigger and think a 55 gallon will be big enough.

On the flip side it really is up to the customer to know before buying. If I see something nice I will pull out my smartphone and research it before buying. Wish most did. That's what stopped me from buying that gf angel. Personally, I would like them to put a sign that indicates which fish will need that 180 gallon tank ect.

I saw that monster too. It looks way too big for the tank it's in and it's in a big tank. On Liveaquaria it says they get 8', so it's still got some growing to do. To me, it didn't look too lively, just laying in the middle of the tank. Usually the eels have their heads up, where this guys head was just laying on the bottom. Maybe it just needs a better home. I'd imagine it needs something around 8' long x maybe 4' deep or donate it to an aquarium that has a tank that can handle such a large animal.

Yeah I can't imagine what kind of tank it was in before :/ either way, if AC had a bigger tank to put him in, you know he would be in there. Now if they still had the koi pond where the coral frag tanks are, they could just house him in that

It probably would have escaped from the old Koi pond. I hear eels are real good escape artists.

I believe the Moray's are attached to their crevice/home all the time so they don't really need a lot of space. They're like clownfish and jawfish in that respect and can be pretty fine in a standard tank. I think that's one of the reasons they've been kept by aquarists forever going back to the beginning of the hobby.
