Glass Tanks

Now that I have FINALLY bought a house and settled in. I am looking into putting a 300 gallon tank in my basement and there is a company that I used to buy terrariums from that makes custom glass aquariums now. Has anyone ever purchased or heard anything good or bad about www.glasscages.com ?

Looked around there site some time ago but haven't heard any good or bad things about them.. What kinda custom work do you want?.. i think there are a couple of companies that make custom tanks in NJ.. I know shipping would be cheaper

I am looking for a 300G starphire glass rectangle tank, nothing too exotic. What companies in NJ make tanks? The terrariums I purchased from glasscages.com were nice, but aquariums are a different beast and I would love to find someone more local if it's possible. The reef ready set up I was looking at glasscages.com was going to cost me about 1800 and I would have to pick it up in white plains NY.

Dont buy from glasscages! there cheap for a reason! to many horror stories of peoples tanks blowing out at the seams, just google "glasscages disasters". plus their warranty doesnt cover anything. spend alittle extra money and get a tank from a quality manufacturer. especially when dealing with 300+ gallons

Glass cages either has people who love them or people who hate them. Everyone will agree customer service is shoddy at best and your silicone will be sloppy. However, for the price they are very tough to beat and I know some people on this board who have had their tanks for years with no problem. When a terrarium fails not a big deal, when a 300g tank goes you have a huge problem.

For high end look at coast to coast as Sid posted above, they are down in Toms River and make spectacular tanks. You will pay for it, but they are amazing in their quality and craftsmanship. If you go to Tropiquarium they bring in tanks from DAS that can custom order a tank for you for a good price and they are reasonable. You can also talk to Aquatic Obsession, I know they were saying Perfecto will custom make tanks as well and you can order through them. A lot of good options out there.

All depends upon what you want and what you want to spend.

They make tanks as you want them that seem to hold up. Jim Roth here on NJRC has a GlassCages tank and it looks great! Nice job on a C to C overflow, StarFire glass.

Other folks have not been as happy with their silocone work. And the owner , Tom, has the personality of a carp.

But the price is very reasonable and if you can pick up in White Plains NY shipping is dirt cheap.

The NJ shops are in general pretty pricey but they do some real sweet looking work.

wow thanks for all the feedback guys! I think I am going to shop around with some of the companies in NJ to see how their pricing is. I know I will pay more, but I rather establish a relationship with a local vendor than just be another customer with glasscages.com. After searching around I found some real horror stories with their larger tanks and they also only offer a 90 day warranty on their work. Another common issue people seem to have with them the sloppy seams and if I am going to invest the time and money into a large set up, I want to do it right :)

Marineland makes a 300gal, starphire glass on front and sides. OGII has one on display.
