Does anybody do this? Or have done this? I'm looking to maximize every inch of real estate in my cube. Was goin to try n mount an encrusting frag to the back glass.

Any suggestions? Should I rough up a small patch and try from there?

I've tried it before, but they didnt stay put, did you place it on coraline algae?

You are better off gluing to a magnet and have its mate on opposite side of glass. Check out my old tank thread and you can see at the time how crazy my back wall was.

I saw the thread and was really impressed, do you think that I could coat the outside magnet in something like silicone so that I can be submerged in the rear chamber? I have an AIO system so i don't have clear access to the glass

You might be better off getting a magnet and placing it in a non-toxic plastic container and use aquarium glue to keep it closed.

Careful w\ the magnet.... it can and will leach eventually....... don't you have an overflow box? Attach it to the overflow box... the glue will hold to that... and also if you wipe down thee glass really good and use epoxy... that will hold till the frag begins to encrust..... just some ideas

nah, no overflow box...its an AIO....you can see my build under my signature....in any case im going to see what i can do to the glass...maybe something will stick

The place I got magnets from has them encased in a plastic shell. After 3years in tank water no issues nor corrosion for the one I broke open. Here is the site, k&j magnetics.

So the plastic coated? The lbs I am assuming is how much weight it can hold right? So with these, would you recommend glueing them directly to the magnet? Or frag plug then magnet?

personally, I'd just glue it to the magnet, but that'll depend on how big your frag is & the magnet sizes you get. I can tell you the 3.45lb ones aren't as sturdy as I wanted on my 40B.. but I was expecting full on rare earth metal magnet that are impossible to seperate.

Here's a link to their posting on what to use for aquariums

I know this is an older thread, but if you are interested in maximizing space you may want to look at a DIY project I did years ago. You can search for a thread called "Back Wall Aquascaping". It is under the DIY section.
