Group buy time - Which external pump PanWorld or Iwaki?

I'm trying to decide between the Panworld or Iwaki. Anyone have any recommendations on manufacturer?
The 2 models are:
- PanWorld 150PS-MD55R External Water Pump - 1100gph*
- Iwaki MD55RLT Water Pump (Japanese Motor)*

Both have similar output and I need something which can pump up 1 floor, probably about 12 foot of head pressure. These pumps would get me over that, but I will just tune it down.

I know that PanWorld was started by one of the Iwaki engineers, but I read posts, saying they were a bit louder and hotter running. I'm looking for quiet and reliable. It would be great if anyone has first hand experience to share.

Thanks!

Check out the blue line pumps as well. They too were started by an iwaki engineer. And if I'm not mistaken they match perfectly number for number with the iwaki at a cheaper price.

I'll be giving a blue line 55 a shot with my 180. Probably about 13-14' head. Depending on the fittings I need to use.

I bought my Iwaki pumps with the Japanese motors used and ran them for 15 years before I sold them when I broke my tank down. They are very quiet and reliable but consume a lot of watts, around 295. Avoid the American motored pumps they not as reliable.

I bought a Panworld world pump when I restarted my tank and saw no difference in output or heat. It was just as quiet and reliable but also used just as much energy.

I don't think you'll get the flow you'll want pushing water up one floor unless you're going to use supplemental circulation in the display.

I fall in the camp of not using the return pump for flow, I like 3-5x the tank size the most. I have Tunze on the list for the flow.

i have an Iwaki run for continually for 9 years without any problem...

i would suggest to get something just enough to pump it up to your display tank...
then use supplemental power-heads to direct your flow more precisely inside the display tank...

Thank you to everyone for the input. I think I'm going to go with the Sicce Syncra 10 for the main reason it can be run in the sump. Given my luck with bulkheads, that is 1 less thing to go wrong.

yes - the in sump option is a great choice!

If like to hear your reviews on that pump when you get it. I didn't think there were any internal pumps out there that could handle that type of head pressure. This now has me rethinking the use of an external pump for my setup. I'm looking at around 14' of head if I go with flex PVC. So it seems that the 12 might do the trick for me.
