Nice!! good luck Mark, keep us updated on your first impressions.

Spent yesterday working on the tank and got the Gyre installed. Packaging was A+. Removed one wp40 and shut the other one down. The key to water movement seems to be the height its mounted. I originally had it about 5 inches below the water level but it seems to give little movement in the 5 to 6ft range especially mid depth. This am I raised it to two inches depth and the surface movement is crazy and the end 5-6 ft area is better. Seeing a constant lifting of detritus as unit runs. This running at 50-60% power. One return line runs in conflict against the flow (bubbles and water noise.), will need to may more adjustments.

The controller is black with black symbols which looks sexy, but it makes it difficult to read unless in well lit area. Instruction are decent but could be better, I'm still trying to understand the control setup. I'm just running one direction at 50-60%.

Overall I'm very happy, the footprint is so much better than the huge wp40. Surface agitation is off the charts. My sand is squeaky clean. Will need to play with the setting to get better performance. I fully expect to remove the second wp 40.

Anyone who would like to check it out, you are all welcome. I have beer and wine too...

Mark your a 180 right and you think 1 will do? If so I need to get one

I have the standard 180g 6x2x2. The flow at 60% is just a little light at the 5-6ft mid range, if you like high crazy flow you might have an issue, but if not you are good to go. Plus my return helps for any weakness in that area. You can also increase the flow rate but it becomes a little much on the pump side of the tank.

Video of Maxspect Gyre, please excuse my algae issue...:)

Dan, that'll work perfect for you in that tank, especially with no sand. I'm debating on getting one for the 150 but I cant mount it on the side bc of the overflows so I dunno what I'm gonna do :/

Mark do you get the back and forth motion? Is it going to be too much flow for a 4 ft tank?

I think it would do great on a 4 foot tank. Not seeing much back and forth motion except the flow coming back from the bottom. You would just need to run it 40%-50%. I'm running in constant mode right now so haven't played with the pulse or other options. You can also adjust the gates to direct flow also and do reverse flow too..

How do you think it would work on the back glass, centered?

How far across? The instructions come with a warning. It could blow your seams apart...lol I think you would need the 35w at the lowest setting, unless you have a wide front to back tank. The water might even flow out over the rim. Running it deep might help also.
