Harlequin serpent star and pistol

I was at the LFS today and they had a small about 31/2-4" star today. I've been looking for a small one for the nano for a while, but I have a pistol coming in from the group buy. Will they be compatible, will I be asking for trouble?

You should be fine IMHO. I have kept the two together in the past. You were smart not to name the store with the star, if you had I might be in my car on the way now;)

Well Nikki it was allquatics. And unless you can get there in the next 15min you'll never neat me there. And to be honest it was only labled as a serpent but it had the banding like the harli. I'm gonna get either way. I just can't remember if the main body had markings or if it was just the arms.

As Nikki said, anything is possible, but I too have had a very large pistol (3-4") and a purple/red serpent without any issue. They used to fight for who is going to take down my turbo snails, so be careful.

I should mention that many disagreed with me that a serpent would eat a snail unless it was already sick.. so I don't know. I just know that I saw a lot of snails go down to my pistol and serpent.

Well I picked him up.

Not a harlequin but still I liked and he's small only about 3" spread. Perfect for the nano. Kind of hard to see but the main body markings looks like a heart and actually has a bit of red in it. Of course I'll most likely never see it. Just like everything other invert in the tank.

You may see him more than you think. Before I went bare bottom, mine used to eat out of my hand/come to my hand when it was feeding time or any food came to the tank.

I guess serpents are not bare bottom type inverts. The first day I went bare bottom he wedged himself under a rock, split ALL of his legs, and died. :(

Nice pickup, I have one that looks exactly like it!

Out of all the serpants and brittles I have he is the most cryptic.

i think serpent stars are great and really cool. However big ones tend to walk around at night and they seem to find the nice niche that my jawfish built...making for a very unhappy jawfish.

So now I am resigned to only small mini serpent stars that exist in the LR, coral nooks/cavities etc.
