Has anyone successfully sealed a large crack in their tank?

After doing something really stupid tonight, I now have a large crack in my main display tank. It's across the back panel from the top to bottom. Needless to say, I'll be spending the night moving my livestock to temporary holding tanks.

Before I go out and have to buy a new 180 gallon tank, has anyone successfully sealed a crack this large? Is it advisable? I'm not too concerned about the looks since it will be hidden by live rock. I'm more concerned that it stays structurally sound.

You can't seal a crack like that. Only way to fix it is to replace either the whole back glass or the whole tank.

On the bottom and you'd have the water pressure to hold it, but the back glass?? I'm with Matt.

say it aint so ray! i wouldnt trust any fixes besides putting in a new piece of glass.

Have to agree with everyone here. There is no way to seal a crack that big on a side wall, especially with a 180. Way too much pressure.

Replacing the wall won't be worth your time or money unless you have a friend who own's a glass shop, lol.

What size is the tank by the way? I actually happen to have 2 pieces of glass that are 72"x27" I believe... they are sitting in my garage taking up space. If they are the same size as your back wall, you can have one or both of them for free.

Also, I live in Blackwood and work in Lumberton. If you need any help with storing any corals or anything temporarily, let me know. In fact, I just got a 12 gal. Nano last night that I was going to set up for a QT tank, but if you need to borrow it let me know. It's got an external pump and everything except lights.

About two years ago a friend of mine tried to drain his tank and silicon it, i told him it was a bad idea. well needless to say it worked for a little while so he put back all of his live stock and refilled his tank. and about 3 days later he came home from work and his fish were dry and he had alot of water on his floor, the only thing that lived were two blue claw crabs. STUPID

GET A NEW TANK!!!

After a day and a half, I was able to finally setup/move my livestock into my temporary setup (attached). Not bad, huh?

Anyways, I figured I needed a new tank. What I didn't figure on was how many helpful pople there are on this forum. Regardless of my long term solution...glass panel replacement, new 180, tank upgrade (I really want this one!!!), I really appreciaite everyone's feedback and PM's offering assistance.
