Having second thoughts

I know I posted my tank up forsale but I am having second thoughts now. I really like the tank. It truly is one of a kind and would not be easliy replaced. Does everyone think I am just being impatient? The tank is just about a year old. I am still not sure what the issue is but the tank looks good now. No more diatoms on the sand. No cyano. Everything but the corals seem happy. Not sure what to do... :undecided: I am pretty sure I may need to change the lighting again.. I dont think I am getting enough spread on the DIF100 to cover the entire tank that well...

Don't sell it, as much as I would love to have that tank, don't sell it. You will be kicking yourself down the road when you go smaller then want to go bigger and have to buy everything all over again. You will never be able to get that dimension tank again without dropping a fortune. We need to have a pow wow and go over everything, strip it down to basics and start again.

I agree with Mike...Don't sell it. There is plenty of help to get you on track. My tank had many ups and sowns for a couple of years. My current tank looked bad for over a year with good growth, but horrible color, then it started looking great until the hurricane came and wiped me out...I thought about shutting down for frustration and financial reasons, but the fact is that I would not be able to live without it and my kids love it too, no matter how bad it looks it is still a conversation piece. I will be struggling to get back on track!

I am happy to see this. I was going to call you to talk you out of selling it. Definitely keep it, you are totally being impatient. I will help you out with whatever you need...

Paul, you have to keep that tank. There are plenty of people here willing to help and as Mike said you can go back to basics.

Unless you absolutely need the money, KEEP IT! If you are having doubts, hold onto it. When the bug comes back (and you know it will) you'll be kicking yourself for selling such a nice tank.

Selling it and then wanting a big tank again is what I am afraid of. I dont think the wife would let me do it again. She was even saying I am crazy for wanting to sell it. Does anyone have a PAR meter thay want to lend me for a day or so? I guess I shoudl start with my light. Everything seemed to get worse switching to the single DIF100. Not sure if I am getting enough light.

Paul, I'm glad you are considering keeping it but really surprised that nobody bought it yet! I agree that wanting to upgrade again down the road would have killed you after selling that beautiful tank now.

Lights seem like a good place to start looking at as a reason for your headaches. Just think how happy you will be once you get the tank running the way it should!

Keep the tank. As much as I'd love a tank like that (those are the dimensions of my dream tank). Clearly you spent way more on it than what you were selling it for, and it is definitely worth a lot more.

As far as problems with it running, we all need to keep in mind that having an awesome tank (especially a large tank) requires patience, and almost daily work. I know my tank isn't even close to where I want it yet. What I'm saying is that a lot of people's dream tanks only reached complete stability and perfection after many years-even almost a decade of working on them. I'm less than a year in on mine. Sure there is stress when things arent working out, but give it some time to run.

Also the dimensions are rather unique-what works on my 4' 120, probably won't work on a 4'x4' tank in terms of lighting, flow dynamic, etc. That's going to require experimentation and continuous tweaking to get right. If you feel overwhelmed with a problem, get back to basics, and try to solve one thing at a time. Half the fun of this hobby to me is figuring out what went wrong-and figuring out how to fix it. Bottom line-that is an awesome tank, it would be a shame for you to sell it.

Glad to see the change of mind. Like everyone else has said you'll be kicking yourself later if you let it go now.
