Help me make a reefing decision

Set it up like Mike and Nikki's system. Using the frag tank and the 90 in the basement...you will be able to get it to work out even if it is reef ready.

Please explain. I've been there but can't remember it. If I use the 90rr I would need something for it to drain into. Wouldn't that effectively cancel that as a sump. I always thought of a sump as the lowest point in the system.

All you would have to do is close the bottom holes off or just close loop them together no big deal, your sump is not going to be full to the top anyway because you are going to want room for the upstairs tank to drain down into the sump right? So eventually your 90 can become your sump.

Huh. Never thought of closing the holes off. That could solve another problem as I have a few montis well encrusted to the overflow. I could just cut it up and get rid of it. Gotta think that one through.

I think you might miss the tank in the living room if it took a year or so to get the new tank. Even if you have a killer frag system in the basement. I would just move the 90 out of the way and set it back up till you are ready for the swap. For now I would start building stands and set up a frag tank in the basement. This way your not spending all at once you can build it a little at a time over the next year.

John, I don't mean to tease you, but I think there's a guy in Blackwood that's selling a used 200 DD. It's on Craigslist.

If I was only ready now. I saw one in Philly the other day too. Think that was on RC. Only need another grand. I'm sure my wife will just hand it to me. Lol

John go for the tank you really, really want even if it will take more time for you to put it together....will take longer but no regrets later.

If the tank is a good price you can jump on it and then wait for the cash for the other stuff (lights, skimmer, stand, etc.) and I find when it comes to wives it always easier to beg forgiveness than ask for permission! :)

Well it looks like I'm going forward with the frag tank in the basement. I figure I'll build out the stand to hold the DB 80gal frag tank and also a 75 gal tank next to in but on the floor.

I'm gonna start with the frag tank with my current sump and eventually pick up a 75 to have as a sump. After I have those in place with a nice tabletop for equipment and some hanging stations behind it for reactors and other equipment to hang. I will eventually move all reefer equipment down there to make all maintenance nice and easy. It's gonna be a long build process but will eventually culminate with the 200dd replacing my 90.

Guess I'll have to start a tale of the tank thread soon.

Will do J. Might have to have a building party in the near future. Beer, food, 2x4's. All the good stuff. Lol

I'll be there, haha

I must warn you, my woodworking skills are very much lacking. Rob can attest to that. Lol.
