Help with diy canopy for 75 gallon

Hey guys, just loking for some ideas and input. I just picked up a 75g megaflow tank to replace my 55 and it has an AGA oak stand. I need to make a canopy for it, but I would like some ideas and help designing it. I would like to be able to open the front and maybe part of the top, but I also don;t want to make it too tall. I want to keep the lights pretty close to the water. Also, I was thinking about glass or acrylic lids for the tank as I have a few gobies and wrasses leap to their death in the past and it will keep the bulbs clean. Does anyone use a glass lid? Any problems with them? I guess I am just looking for some tips and ideas before I start spending money and cutting wood.

We use glass lids on our 65, we have an eel that would be dried up on the floor otherwise! We've had no problem with them.

As far as a canopy, there are some pretty good designs floating around. Depending on the type of trim you're looking for I'm sure you can find one. I'll see if I can dig up some links and post them.

While the glass lids to keep the bulbs clean... they need to be cleaned often to get the salt and gunk off of THEM!

Phyl, if not glass lids, do you have any other ideas? The bulbs that are on my 55 now without protection are etched from salt spray! I really want to avoid that. I guess I will just have to keep the lids clean!

Thanks Merv! That was just the thread I was going to dig up!

It's a really nice design that works very well. It gives you great access to the tank.
