Help with MH lighting fixture

First I must tell you all that it's been a while since I was in the market for any aquarium lighting and I could use a little help. I used to have a 55 reef w/ power compacts. I really didn't keep hard corals, just mostly shrooms. I took it down about 4 years ago and haven't relly done anything since. I have a hex ( I know, I know, it isn't the best design but it was cheap). I've had it up for about a year with about 40lbs of live rock, live sand, 3 clowns and a red head goby. I only had a compact on it with no corals. That light is now shot and I have to replace it.
Now for the main question. My son is really starting to take an interest in the tank now and I want to get a bunch of shrooms and maybe some polyps. I was looking at a clamp on MH from JBJ but don't know whether to look into to 70w or 150w. Any hel[ would be graetly appreciated. The tank is about 30" deep.

Welcome to the site!. Go for the 150w the 75w isn't going to be enough with that depth and you will be able to keep sps if you choose to.

Go for the 150w. You'll be kicking yourself later that you didn't spend the extra $40.

While I tend to agree with the others, I would also mention MH lights are not the typical for a shroom and polyp tank.

If there are thoughts that you may want to move past shrooms and polyps, that is different.

Placement is going to be part of this equation.

I'll let you know about the temp...
I'm setting mine up tonite over my 29 gal..
going from 4- 24 watts (2- 12,000K and 2- actinics)- t5's to that fixture...

for a 30" deep tank i think 150 watts is a little weak. even for softies. i am getting ready to replace my 150 watt coralife clip on fixtures because they are not putting out enough light, and my tank is only 17" deep. i also maintain a 150 gallon in wall tank at the local gym and he's got 150's on it. this tank i believe is 28" or so..and zoas look like crapola on the sand bed.
if you plan to keep any sps later they will have to be at the tippy top of the rockwork, and i hope that rockwork is high! that is, of course, if you want them colorful.

Ok I got the light up and running on my 29...
And i tell you in hasnt increased my temp at all so far...
And i have it in enclosed canopy!
It stays cool with the fan that comes with it and is quite...
Not a bad fixture for the price...
Good luck with whatever fixture you go for!
