Here's a "wishful thinking" question. Now you guys be gentle......

OK, so say I know this guy who has a saltwater set up. Originally, he only wanted fish. He advanced and became more confident in the hobby and progressed to corals. Softies, LPS, then on to some SPS. Now, this individual would like to add a clam. BUT, I hear he has a dragon wrasse, yet a juvenile and not starting any trouble yet though. I am not sure if he can catch him in order to remove him. If this person adds a clam, are the chances of him getting eaten pretty good?..because of the dragon wrasse?

From what i understand, while they are rock movers and invert hunters like most wrasses, they are only likely to bother a clam if it is on the sand bed. Generally speaking his BEST option (not 100% guarantee) is for a clam to be added to the rockwork.

If you, er... "this guy you know", stands a chance with a clam it will stand the best chance in the rockwork as mentioned. I would place it on the largest rock in the tank and make sure there are no rocks that the dragon can knocked over into it. Otherwise a barbless hook and time to go fishing!

OK...believe it or not, I am talking about me. the reason I posted this is because I have read about many hobbyists keeping a dragon wrasse with the clams. The only issue was sand being blwn into his mantle and him being flipped over. ....like you guys mentioned earlier. I am going to attempt to get a hold of a Deresa clam. I was at The Fish Place in Lancaster yesterday and they only had small Maximas and huge Squams. I did grab some superman digitate about 6-7". While placing it in the tank I snapped it in half. Thanks for the input on the clam.

As soon as you said "he" had a dragon wrasse, I knew what was going on. LoL I feel your pain, my FOWLR is kind of boring compared to my other tanks and looks so plain.

"i was over at lancaster yesterday". Dude - that is like the mecca of dry goods / live fish. You mention the place so casually...hahaha. The place is a mad house on that annual april sale though.

Anyways - some people love clams - others could care less. i have 3 maximas - so dragon wrasses are out. but if you love the wrasse and want to chance the clam - then go for it. just think of the clam as either an expensive snack or if it makes it - a new addition to the tank!

Thanks..though I am gonna try to remove the wrasse. Definitely gonna place him up in the rock off of the substrate.
