I’m looking for your two cents…….

It looks like I’m going to be putting in a home exercise room and would like to hear recommendations on what type of equipment I should include. Detail / brands would be appreciated as well.

I recommend nixing the idea. 95% of all people who install a home gym ignore it after the first month. Save your time and money and spring for a monthly gym membership. Chances are, you'll quit that after a month or two anyway and save some $$ in the end. ;)

Depends on what you are looking to do. Are you gearing more towards free weights, an "all in one" machine or more cardio? If you're looking for free weights and benches or an "all in one" machine take a look at body solid. Very nice home gym equipment. As far as the cardio stuff goes it's been a very long time since I followed it so I'm not too sure there. If you want take a trip down to the sports exchange in Howell. They have just about the full line of body solid products. They are on route 9 in Howell just south of the old bicycle world.

Go to a gym for a few months then decide what type of equipment you want to use. I have an elliptical and a treadmill but I am mostly on the treadmill. I use the elliptical every once a while to give my knees a break.

Depends on what you want to do as other above have said.

I use these:
http://www.trxtraining.com/

You are your own resistance, you get a total body workout, they can be used on the back of a door (depending on your door), and they take up no space at all. My trainer introduced me to these and they are nice.

To go along with what George said. I work pt at a gym and people are always posting used equipment on our bulletin board because they say that they got all this fancy stuff but only used it for a short period of time. Now they just use it to hang their laundry. The gym membership is the way to go. Plus also like George said that in 2 months if you decide you don't want to do it your not stuck with an expensive clothes drying rack. Free weights can be expensive. They are like a buck a pound.

If you do go with a gym membership stay away from the big box gyms planet fitness giant and those (just my 2 cents). You wouldn't believe the amount of people that see the $10 a month deal and think how good it is and then they don't like the atmosphere.

I just bought into this:
http://www.pelotoncycle.com

I get home to late from work to make it to classes and I can't run due to foot issues so this was very attractive to me. They opened up a store front at the short hills mall.
