How do I kill an encrusting montipora?

I've got a green plating monti that has been creeping over a flat rock. I assumed since it was plating that I could simply lift it off. It has encrusted and is now a part of the rock. It is impossible to lift it off. Is it ok to simply go to town with some cutters and destroy it? Will the ooze and slime hurt anything else?

Hack away! If you want to be safe either do it before a water change or before a carbon change, they might be overkill but you never know.

I use a laser to kill sps I don't want. It all depends on the size. If you were trying to get rid of a large space it could take a long time.
