How long before i can put BTA in a new setup??

I just set up my 120 and wanted to add some BTA. the tank was running for 3 weeks with rocks only in it and about a week with a few fishes in it??? please help I'm kinda new to this

my new 180 has been running for about 7 weeks, i just added a few condy anemomes the other day (came as a gift with my LR) and they seem to be doing fine! not sure about a BTA though. but like most things in this hobby, i would say wait a while. patience is a virtue.

A dead anemone will foul water fast. You'd do well to wait until you did a few water changes, tested parameters for 4-6 weeks running and gave your new fish load time to establish the proper amount of bio filtration prior to adding an anemone. They like pristine, consistant water and the best way to acheive this is to get your mistakes out first!

Good luck and welcome to the hobby as well as NJRC.

I would say that the previous post recommending 6 - 8 months is about what I would recommend. Many say a year. Anemones should only be put into well established tanks.

Also a BTA can grow very large. make sure you are willing to dedicate about 1/3 of your tank to it.

I would like to say thanks for everybody helping me out with this question. i guess i gotta have some patience and wait 6 - 8 months

you can use that time to make your powerheads nem friendly ;D

I'm debating getting one in a few months myself... just nervous about it in such a small tank. It takes a split second for something bad to happen quickly in such a small tank... ::)

I'm such a wimp...

Out of curiosity...what kind of lighting do you have?

BTA is not just grow very large, every other corals it touched - die!
so, beware...

to clarify, not right away... for long time touching (about few days)...

welcome to NJRC - for someone new to the hobby - starting with a 120 - well definite thumbs up here! You should definitely post some pictures...there are quite a few tale of the tanks with 120's...good info on each of them. Good luck!

Patience. patience, patience. I would start with something easy like Zoas, or mushrooms. Anemone's aren't the easiest to care for and should in most cases be left to experienced reefers but that just my opinion.
