How tall of a canopy?

So I just had my mandarin jump!!

I don't want covers on the tank since I run halides...and a mesh cover cuts too much light. So I was thinking about building a canopy.

How high would the sides need to be so if a fish does jump, it hits the side and drops back in?

- my canopy is about 10" in height... (top is wide openned)
- i did not encounter a jumper for the past 7 yrs...
- however, about a month ago, i had my 1st casualty (a mandarin) jump over to the overflow box area which i have a mesh on top...!! did not discovered after 2 weeks later...

Ok...so it didn't make it out of the tank at 10-inches...that's a good thing.

What if you build a canopy with an open top and put the netting on top of the canopy. This way, you can make the canopy as low as you want. Does this make sense? The open top also helps from trapping heat in the canopy.

I also run halides on my 210, I made a canopy 10"s high, the top is open, but I took eggcrate and cut it to fit the back standing on end and stapled it to the canopy. I'll add a pic as soon as I get some batteries for the camera.

Sorry, the back is open, the rest is enclosed, that makes more sense. One to many Yuengling's, off today, my only excuse.

THanks guys....now anyone know how to build a canopy? :)

And I'm a huge fan of Sam Adams Octoberfest....good thing I stocked up when it was out...but I just cracked open my last case :(
