How to get a Tang to eat from a veggie clip

I picked up a kole Tang about a week ago very active picking at live rock and sand all day but won't eat from the veggie clip. Tried a rubber band and a little piece of live rock still shows no interest. It's my first Tang so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Congrats on the tang! Kole tangs are one of my favorite fish and often overlooked.

In my experience the fish will do best when learning by watching from other fish that eat the algae. Do you have something like a foxface or lawnmower blenny that already eats the nori?

Garlic definitely could help.

See if it goes after the nori when you drop a small piece in during feeding time. I also agree the best way is for them to watch another fish eat from the clip first, or else it’s pretty much up to chance.

Had a similar issue and I rubberbanded nori around a frag plug with an elastic band. Drop it in the tank and it sinks. My like tang started eatting it almost immediateky.

try not to stand by the tank during feeding. I found my tangs wouldn't go near the clip if I was 'near by' so I would feed them and leave the room like 10 to 20 min later come back and if they were still not eating it I pulled it out. I only had to pull it out once or twice and then they started eatting it. I would get them to the point where I could be in the room and they would eat from it. Agree if you have other fish eating from it the tang will mostly follow

He's the only algae eater in a tank for now so not going to learn from watching other guys I'll try some garlic. See how it goes I'll keep you guys posted thanks.

I've been wanting one for a while just never had a tank big enough.

I use Ocean Nutrition Green Seaweed that is already garlic enriched for my powder brown. The stuff smells really good....my wife thinks I've snuck some food downstairs when she smells it. ha ha ha! The fish also refused the clip just like yours. I did the LR rubberband trick. It did not work initially, but be patient and it will eventually nibble it. Especially if you are saying it is picking at the LR. I also had no other grazers until the tang.

Now when the tang eats from the nori, the rest of the fish follow. =)

I didn't order from the above site, but that's the link I could locate on google right now.

Picked up some garlic extract and soaked some nori. I put some in a clip and some on a piece of rock hopefully he figures it out.
It took my kole Tang about two weeks of hiding and watching everyone else eat the nori before trying it out. I just kept putting it on the clip in the same spot
