I am ready for some LPS and possibly SPS. Heres my tank, waddya suggest?

Got some hairy shrooms in there as of now. My parameters are excellent, for now. I have 6x54w T5 bulbs. I am replacing most of them tomorrow. Takin a look at my tank, what do you guys suggest I start adding and where? All my shrooms are shriveled in the pics, lights just came on.

Do your nems walk around?

I would start with some LPS and see how they do. You could have a problem with the Foxface & Angels, they may pick.

My Nems stay put and haven't move in awhile, like months. I think my foxface will be alright. My Singapore is a HUGE P.I.T.A. He may cause some issues. What LPS do you suggest as not to entice the angels to nibble?

I would start with something that doesn't have long tentacles. I would avoid things like Frogspawn and Elegance for now. Maybe some Chalices? Candy Canes? Acans are a possibility too. Start cheap, like the $15 at Dr. Mac you mentioned so you don't learn the hard way.

+1
I know from experience how hard it is to be patient in this hobby, but exercising a little will save you a lot of $$$ in the long run to say nothing of the corals you will effectively be experimenting with. I would make sure that your tank's water param's are good and they become and remain stable, before investing a lot of time, money and effort into these sensitive animals. Everyone here is willing to help, so try and temper your enthusiasm, and always look for advise. There is no such thing as a stupid question, except for those that aren't asked.

I will avoid anything with tentacles and any SPS. Will go with some acans, brains, chalices, something small. My LFS has a beautiful green brain, bout 5" across. Lil large, but its pretty inexpensive...$39.

Be careful with a Chalice also, they put out sweeper tentacles at night. My one chalice has sweepers that are about 2 inches long!

If I can make a suggestion, start small. That huge brain might be reasonably priced, but Singapore angles are not know for being reef safe and, while I hate to say this, it is entirely possible you are buying fish food. While it is true that an angel will plow through a small frag more quickly than a colony, at least if you try a frag first it will take longer for the angel to notice it and you can try one or two different things to see how they do. it is also somewhat likely that that brain at your lfs was not aqua cultured, and as such, will be less tolerant of fluctuations in your water quality than an aqua cultured coral would be.

When you are ready I have a fish trap that you can borrow. Likewise when you are ready to redo your T-5's I have 4 that you can get supr cheap. Got them from OGII at 30 a pop . I decided to go MH + LED's and now I don't need em.

Thanks for the advice. You're right, I should stay small to test the waters. I love the singapore, but he is a %$#^bag!! He runs the tank. He's fat and healthy too.

Dont think I'll need a trap. he comes right to the net whenever it comes close. I just cant miss the first time. About the bulbs....what are they 65, 10K's, actinic?? I am interested.

Angels pick, but the smaller ones usually just do that without a lot of damage. If you get a bad one I guess would be a problem.
Keeping them fed, is important as well as some algae for the foxface and angel.
You really can have whatever you want, the angels are going to be most likely problems if you have any.

Nice wrasse!

I like mushrooms but they will be a pain where you have them. That is prime SPS space, and they will spread onto the adjoining rocks and annoy any SPS there...(yep I made that mistake). I did pretty well with placement but I still have a few regrets that is one. Good suggestions are caps, all mine do great under T5, birdsnest, green slimers, any frags from fellow reefers are probably going to do well. LPS you have some great sandbed for acans and so on. Zoas are nice again you can get a rock for the sandbed and it will be confined to that rock.

In planning even when you start with small frags remember they eventually are going to get big. So if you have a nem that stays in one place don't plant any coral around it. First as it grows it will spread out and sting stuff and second when the coral grows it can shade the nem and it will move. I have 4 major SPS colonies that started with a plug and they are all at least 8 inches in diameter now. So even well planned tanks can get a bit unruly.

Just try to think ahead and see what you like.
