tank was delivered and the movers did a quick job of getting it in the house(they have moved fish tanks before).....unfortunately the tank came with a scratch on it and it may have to be exchanged :'(
I have no doubt as to it being taken care of...its just depressing that after waiting so long ...I have to wait more now.
As soon as I noticed the scratch I called the manufacturer(awesome guy)...he gave me two options:
a:have it repaired and recieve a substantial discount for keeping a repaired/scratched tank.
b:wait while they expedite a brand new one from Italy for exchange (this may take a few weeks)
WWYD?
I agree with Phyl ;D The company is more than likely not going to take the scratched one due to cost of shipping back. Wait the 2-3 weeks for a new tank.
Yea but don't buff it or anything until you know what's going to happen to it first. You never know if they will send someone to take a look at it first. It's possible they could blame the shipping company and the shipping company might send someone out.
You could ask them what they intend to do with the old one. Tell them you don't have room for 2 tanks that size in your house so you need to know if it can be taken outside and broken down for the trash man to pickup. Then call me your local glass pickup guy. Kidding aside you might end up with two to use or sell one to somebody else.
If you can't use them both then try and figure what you could sell the scratched one for versus just taking the discount they offered and getting started right away.
I would wait for a new one and see what happens to the old one. I've heard of something like this and they didn't want it back because on shipping it back then selling it real cheap. They'd end up losing more money then just leaving it.
sorry about not being too clear on the details. the repair option is that they will send someone that they choose using a new process in which the scratch is filled in with liquid glass and then polished till it is undetectable ???
option two will be done by fancy LFS Grenwich aquaria...the new tank shipped to them and they will come to my house and swap it out, taking the old one with them.
Oh booo hisss. Sorry to hear that they're going to swipe the tank. I'd go with the repair option with the caviat that if the scratch is detectible by the end of the process you get a new tank. If you can see it you'll NEVER be happy, even if the rest of us can't find it with a road map.
I like Phyls idea. Plus you get a discount back after the fact. The tank isn't go to stay perfect anyway. Sooner or later you are going to get little scratches in it.
Just wanted to give you all an update... I got a call from the builder today. Aparently a brand new tank was expressly built in Italy and will be ariving in California on monday
It will be swapped out with the scratched one when it arives in N.Y. and I will recieve consideration for my headaches (details of which I cannot go into ). Needless to say, I am more than happy with the outcome and will continue to firmly believe that thier customer service is nothing short of amazing !!!
