As I have posted I'm switching my 90 out for a bigger tank. I was suppose to get a 180 but the guy who was getting the tank for me was having some issues getting a non drilled 180. Today he offered to get me a 220 for a nice deal, so here's my question, how do you feel about a 30" deep tank?

I went to the store with every intention to get the 220. Got there and reached in and realized I was well past my shoulder. Opted for the 180 instead.

That's about all I can offer

I have a 30in deep tank and if I need to get something on the bottom of the tank I need to dip my whole arm in the tank up to my shoulder which is quite the pain but most of my frags and colony's are only about 15-20 in deep in the tank so it's not that bad. And I have yet to find a pair of tongs strong enough to grab anything more then a small rock or frag without breaking.
That being said if it wasn't for the fact that I have to take my whole canopy off to do any work on the tank it wouldn't be as much of an issue as it is.

Thanks for the replies guys I'm still up in the air the depth really worries me especially with tank maintenance. I don't want to have to shower before I reach into my tank so I won't get deodorant in the tank LOL

If your up for the drive The hidden reef had a 220 about a week ago. If they still have it you could always go in a check it out. I'm willing to bet Trop has one too

id go with the 180. My cube is 24 deep and getting stuff on the sand bed is a pita some times. I built my stand low also. Rim of the tank is armpit height and im 6'1". I just dont think its worth the hassle for the extra 40 gallons. Now, if you look at the dimensions of the marineland DD tanks.... all 27" height. Get the 300!

Think I'm going to go with the 180, just think ill get annoyed every time I try to grab or do something on the bottom

I'd go 220...other than the reach, everything else is better...:) Add 4-6 inches of rock minimum and you wont even notice. Think of how that sucker will look...if you get the 180, you will be kicking yourself in 6 months...

220 equalizer...at worst you hold Adams legs and have him be diver dan...:)

30 inch depth crew here, and it is quite awesome. 24 is no slouch, but if you have the room go bigger. Nicole has a stool and can reach most of the tank. If you want to come over and check it out and play around, let me know.

Dude. You're making this WAY too hard.

There's an easy way to get to 200g with each tank bottom within reach.

Just keep the 90 as is.

THEN, use tanks you have lying around, hell I can give you some, and ADD to your current setup.

This allows you to achieve a split level effect AND allows you decorate each tank individually.

I've taken the liberty of making you a blueprint.

No need to thank me.
