Pics of the Tang. Some folks have asked me how I plan to make sure these 2 bad boys don't fight. Well thats simple. They will be living in a 20 gallon tank together seperated by eggcrate for a week or 2. When they stop flaring at each other they are ready. If they STILL can't get along one will find its way into my frag tank. Fish introduced this way IMHO rarely end up beefing in the tank.
I thought the thinking was 30 mins should be the maximum time to acclimate when fish are shipped, given the ammonia starts to rapidly build due to the ph raising. Quote from RC:

I know this is another one of those highly debated topics, but the science makes sense, and even if the fish survives there might be long term damage which wouldn't present itself for months.
To combat that. I use prime to detox the ammonia before I start acclimation
My quarantine tank water is around 1.020. Considering

Salinity shift from 1.015 to 1.020... its not an easy thing on the fish. I do it slowly.
Drip 1 hr ..... I cannot use many detox products on the tank because simply it has copper in the water from the factory. It makes the water toxic depending on the copper. I combat this by dripping slowly and monitoring my fish.

The method discussed is to match your QT salinity to the shipping water. So it's a temp acclimation in the closed bag and then place the fish directly in the QT, you then raise/lower it slowly during the QT period.

Yup!.. This is the exact process that I use. I usually keep my QT around 1.020. From there with +- 5/6 RODI Gallons I can quickly lower the salinity BEFORE adding the fish. Takes 5/10 minutes to do as long as you have the RODI handy. I usually keep the 5/6 Gallons which I further dilute untill I have a good 25% water change/emergency reserve ready. I also end up using this water for anything like DIPS and the like if I have to.
I start my qurantine with 1 Day of Observation. I feed at night and I always go with a frozen or dry food first If I have it available. Usually the fish have been starved for some time to reduce the changes of them pooping and fouling their water during shipping. I also add in a Clip of NORI and frequently I will TIE the nori to a rock or PVC instead of using a clip. The fish are wild caught and probably look for a rock first before a clip of sea weed hanging in the tank. I also go Lights out for the first 12 hours to let them calm down and relax.
After that I run a few tests on the Qurantine to check the PH and Ammonia ATE/ITE and correct if Necessary.
I then dose with Quinine Phosphate after about 2 days. I treat with this and PraziPro if necessary. I only Prazi if the fish are acting weird. I have succesfully used

Sounds like a pretty solid QT process to me. Especially the part where you adjust the QT tank water to the bag water first, then do your acclimation (raising to your DT water) slowly in clean, ammonia free water. As long as the pH and temp are the same at the start, the jump from bag to QT tank shouldn't be an issue at all.
Just an update. All the fish lived except the carpenters wrasse. He died in quarantine. I was credited the full amount after a 15 minute chat on petco.com. I emailed him a pic of the dead fish in my hand and he processed the credit. None ever showed any signs of disease. With the exception of the flame wrasse who turned out to be a male coral nipper all are in my tank.
