I think my time is up with the hobby

Guys and Gals,
I think my time with the hobby is over. I run out of time at home to help my wife. My work load at work for FY12-15 triple the current amount in FY11. Sux to get promote but again the work load is ridiculous. 12 project with 4 of them are high priority and high visibility. along with 12 projects, I need to help my co-worker (1 person) to design stuff in supporting his 12 projects.

I think i need to sell my systems and ride the work storm cat. III until 2016 or what ever again.

any suggestion?

I was Shocked to hear this a little while ago but at the end of the day dude you know what's best... but Ed had a good idea about hire/Paying someone to look after it

Olivier, there must be ways to decrease your tank workload, so that you may keep your tank and career. I'd hate to see you leave the hobby dude. Stick it out man! how many years have you been doing it? how much have you invested? (Blood sweat and tears included). Don't give up olivier!

Olivier!

You have to do what's right for you and your family. But, you will miss it! Maybe a downsizing is an option?

What ever you do, let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

I've been there a few times myself this past year, Olivier. If you start neglecting the tank it becomes an eyesore and creates even more stress.

Just remember that you can always come back to the hobby when thing settle down. But it doesn't mean you cant visit us in the meantime :watermelon:

Good luck with your decision.

Olivier, You should really think this over and as others have said hire someone to maintain the tank. And above all as most of us know and what I have learned first hand is that having a tank can for sure be a great stress reliever. Also a great learning tool for the small kids in yr home.Good luck in whatever you decide and you will be missed for a fact.

Olivier....sad to hear!! I've ccontemplated getting rid of coral and going to FOWLR due to the maintenance. FOWLR is so much easier to maintain. But just like everyone else has said....you have to do what you have to do. But you will miss it!!

Hire CJ to maintain your tank! Seriously though, we would all miss you and your blowtorches! If it's what's best for your family then it's the right choice. If you leave and ever get back into it you know everyone here will have plenty of stuff to get you back on your feet!

1 of the 3 options:

- use your promoted big bonus to get high end automate equipments...
- hire some one to maintain it.
- make it as softy & fishes only tank...

I would try to make it as simple as you can and hire someone for now. When life slows down you will be glad it is still running. Hope it all works out for you.

Olivier - would it help if some of us came over one day to help with the tank? I mean you can't go from asking me how to breed clowns to the other extreme of saying good bye to everything. let me know. Be happy to come over and help with anything.

The only maintenance I do with my tank is a 40 gallon water change every other week. And then feed them of course but even that I forget to do every day. Probably helps to keep from them getting obese. And of course filling the top-off container once a week.

If we can get you to a point where you are doing just a few things for the tank - I'm sure it will become far more enjoyable for you, wife and kids, rather than the burden you are now seeing it as.

Despite the long and grueling trek I would be more than happy to help you out if you need it Olivier. I used to do tank maintenance at the LFS I worked in and there are still 2 guys who do it at the store I worked in. The one guy has been doing it for about 20 years at this point and knows his stuff inside and out. It's been a long time since I worked there and I didn't leave on the best of terms but I'm sure I could mention you there and see if they can help you out at all. My sister does still work there on the weekends too so that may help as well.

Olivier,
I would think long before you do this. You put a lot of time in to the hobby. But if you do go I am sorry to see you go.

Sorry to see you go but if you have to do what is best for you and your family. I would think long and hard as others said. Ways to automate and make maintenance easie,. softies and fish or FOWLR. Wish you the best in what ever you decide.
