I purchased this coral from Trop. It was labeled as assorted coral. I know Brent told me what it was but I forgot.
I got it 9 days ago and it opened the very next day. It has been closed since last 3 days now.

Can some ID this coral? It is closed. When open it was green/yellowish ...

Sorry cannot describe any better.

Not sure why it is closed now. The water parameters are all fine. All other corals are doing fine.

They are Green Star Polyps, GSP.
They close like that all the time.

Thanks Mike. Anything I can do to open them up? I do not think it is dead. It has some polyp open. Very few though.

Is it under MH'S ? Try it toward the bottom of your tank in lower flow. Being it's in a new tank now it might need time to adjust.

It is under T5. It is in the bottom of the tank.

Hmm, now that I know what it is I read on them in last 30 minutes. These are a pain man. Looks like they spread like crazy.

Now I am having second thoughts.

Green Star Polyps grow like crazy. It will grow all over the rock you place them on in no time. Most peple put them on an "island rock" so it doesn't spread across to other rocks.

They are quick growers. You can always rip off the new growth if it gets out of control and trade with it. They do look good along the bottom of the rocks though.

hit those babys up with a jet of water from a powerhead or turkey baster to blow and dirt off of them. they are prone to sediment damage if it sits on them

It takes a little time to get started again but when it does watch out.
I think there great and if placed right they can really show a tank off. I have mine growing on the glass and it is awesome.

You can also prop it up on a "ring" of either rock rubble or discs, and when it spreads to the ring its sitting on, remove the pieces of the ring and replace them. Then you have frags to trade with as well as keeping it fairly contained. Kinda like "caging" it.

if you dont want them taking over your rocks have them on the sand or next to the walls in your tank so they can grow up the walls . I can only immagine wat trop charged for a piece liek that lol
