The water line indicator is on the black body of the skimmer

That model skimmer has a water line marked on it and you have up a 1" play on it. For now close the air to the skimmer until the water in the skimmer is bubbling just below the neck in the collection cup.

So right where it becomes visible ? So like a 1/4" down from where it's shown now ?

I am curing the rock in my actual tank

in that case let the rock cure once its ready then start the cycle with biospira and no filters for 2-3 days

Use the bottom of your collection cup as a guide. For now, keep the water around the lip of the skimmer where the body meets the cup. When it fully breaks in, probably after your cycle, you can play with the air intake to skim wet or dry

Update !

Installed my media basket with chemi pure & purigen

Picked up my pump from harbor freight for 8 bucks

Ammonia is down to .25 ppm from 2.0ppm

Nitrate & nitrite are pinned at Max testing levels.

Either an algae bloom is about to occur or my rocks just arnt ready to filter yet

Is that chemi pure blue? I'm assuming cuz of the white resin I see in the bag.

Suggestion: I would remove the purigen for now as that plus chemi pure will strip your tank down to 0 really quickly in that empty tank. The combo of the 2 long term may cause you more headaches down the line.

You can bring it back online when your tank establishes a bit more as you can save and recharge the purigen.

I have a similar In Tank basket and it has served me well over the years. Unfortunately I've I've mod'd it to accommodate a make shift fuge.

I'm going to get one for the second chamber it's the intank fuge - I'll scratch the black off and put a light on the back. More money but less problems

4/12/19 update..

I think I'm close to being ready for a fish

Here is my water paramters.


Ammonia is just about zero so it's clearly being converted.

Nitrite is high yet my only concern

Nitrate is high as well but I don't have my lights on for algae to grow. I think it's time to cycle my lights on to grow some algae

Oh and Ph

Thoughts on keeping lights on for my daily schedule now ?

No no no... NO lights. All those elevated levels and not a complete bacterial load. You will creat an algae bloom you do not want. There is no reason to promote algae. You will get it no matter what. But it’s easier to keep it away than to get rid of it

With nothing in the tank, you Definitely wanna keep the lights off for now until your readings reach near zero. The last thing you want is for algae to take hold in your rockwork early on.

Once you add fish, when the tank is ready, you'll need to hold off a bit more to allow it to stabilize a bit. You'll be adding extra ammonia, nitrates and phosphates now with the fish poop and food....which if not careful, will promote algae and maybe some fish issues.

Also, if you're referring to a lighting schedule for your fuge, I also would recommend that you only begin running that once your fish are added to the tank. Being that its empty, there may not be enough N's n P's for the macro to grow.

I can tell you this, it took me about 9 weeks for my tank to completely cycle and it still.came with some challenges.

Also, dont worry about PH as that number will change frequently.

Right now, just let it be. Keep monitoring your Nitrates and Ammonia, keep your lights off for now too. You can even keep the lights to a minimum when you get ur 1st fish. Once you start adding corals, then you can set a lighting schedule

I’d say about 3-7 days should be good to go

I’m certain they are all different. But my ammonia has been completely gone for almost a week and the nitrite is still very very high. Not sure why. All I can do is wait it out. Your nitrite is wayyyy lower than mine
