Did you have bryopsis before you got the Fruit Loops?

I'll post pictures after I get back from girlfriends graduation in NH.

I feel like the bryopsis was there at tbe end of my cycle before any fish or coral were added However, I think it was from a coral

You got it from fruit loops?

Time for an update! 5/14/19.

I am on day 4 of bryopsis treatment! I couldn't really get a before picture as the algae was in baby sprouts... I see no more algae blooming or sprouting so it's kicked ass! I will wait till next Friday and run it for 2 weeks. I am debating turning my protein skimmer back online to cycle some gunk out today or tomorrow. Any thoughts?

I lost my first snail today and potentially a hermit crab. I don't know if they got into a fight but the snail was in bad shape to begin I could tell he wasn't doing great but he was moving around a little today when I woke he was in the same spot as last night so I removed him and you could visually and sensory tell he was dead (stunk). My ammonia spiked a little however, none of my corals have closed even the slightest they seem GREAT. I am wondering if the protein skimmer being back on will help out at all??

Either way here is the huge coral update!

I AM AWFUL AT TAKING SHOTS UNDER BLUES OR WHITES - can someone help me get better shooting on a pixel 3.

Update 5/19/19

My tank is nearing two weeks of reef flux HD treatment... I no longer see a single sign of bryopsis which is wonderful but lack of water changes and purigen and chemipure the uglies broke out full form! ahhh :(

I am wondering when I do my first water change Thursday if siphoning some of it out is okay? Thoughts?

There are like long seaweed like looking pieces sprouting from the diatoms is that normal?

Looks like diatoms

Pick up a cheap piece of yellow plastic film from a hobby shop. And put in front of your phone when you take pics. It really helps

Yes do a water change if you have issues and an ammonia spike. When ever you have a problem. Step one water change. It’s not magic. It’s simple math. Every water change removes some bad stuff. I realize it doesn’t do magical things. But it never hurts.

I love your pics. Looks good

I can't do a water change until Thursday due to treating for bryopsis ?

Yellow film I'm confused ? For stabalizing pics ? Or

You said you weren’t happy with pics under blue light. Yellow plastic film pretty much cancels blue and can help photos look better.

Update as of today 5/29/19

Been having issues with my zoa's closing up...

Been thinking it's because my nitrates have been pegged at zero as I didn't feed while I was gone during the weekend. Protein skimmer continues to kick butt so I ordered more fish to create more bio load to help stabilize my parameters. As you can see from above photos they're not where they used to be but came a long way!

Everything looked much better at the end of the day near the shut of the lights. I have my mom send me periodic pictures throughout the day. I don't know if it has any correlation to my lights being too powerful and they get weaker at the end of the day or if it's just because my parameters are leveling out.

Here is a picture of my lights and how close they are to the water. They reach a max intensity of 45 at peak during the bulk of the day.. is that too much for that close to the water? or how big the tank is? They used to do fine at that intensity in the beginning.

Zoas are funny like that, I've been specific with them for about 2 years now.
About 18 months ago I started adjusting them based on bases.
Anything stretching, I'd move up in the tank slow (or I'd increase intensity of each light channel by 5 per week).
I'd move the Gummie Bears and Hornets up and incjh or two and see how they go.
And cut back on the protein skimmer if you have one, zoas like it dirty. :cautious:

Small update!

one reefapalooza pickup. Need to be mindful with second tank not setup and still needing to spend money to finish it!

A beautiful blue tip torch. (50 dollars) not sure I got a good deal or a bad one but it looks amazing.

My cherry corals are itching to open after being h202 dipped. Nervous about them :(
