Interesting find in my tank

So I'm back yesterday and spent the morning cleaning glass in the 55 gallon. Well I found 3 separate spots on my rock work that have very small ( 3-5 polyp) colonies of a green pocilopora sps growing. They are areas that never had any of the mother colony on it. So how did they set up shop and grow. Was it a tissue fragment that settled there? Of so 2 are on areas that flow would preclude that. Was there some spawning going on unbeknownst to me? No idea. Pretty cool though. I have 2 types of a green pocilopora not sure what it looks like. To me it looks like a combo of the two, pretty cool.

They send out spores. You will find.them allover. On rocks, the overflow, on clams, powerheads.Lol

Agreed here, there are types that can become a nuisance and completely take over a tank. Kalk paste the areas where it's starting to grow.

Pociloporia is the SPS version of Kenya trees. One minute you have one colony, next thing you know you are finding them everywhere!

Thanks guys for the input. Now I need to figure out what I want to do with the mother colony. Not sure of I want to keep it or not. Sigh!

keep it! I love mine, just frag what you can and give it away or sell.

One of the few benefits of my recent losses is I am finally rid of that stuff. Never again! and mine was a very pretty variety. When it finds the best location in the tank and takes it over, you need a hammer and chisel to get it loose.
