invasive sponge?

hey gang, i have an invasive sponge in my tank. at first i didn't think it was a big deal since it's been there for a while. i've had another reefer take light of the situation so i did as well. recently this sponge is starting to take over rocks and invade corals (especially sps). the color is a puke color which hugs the rocks and some parts extend out like tentacles. anyone have any idea of how to get rid of this w/out taking out the rock and scrubbing it?

Hard to tell from the pic but... If it is a sponge i would be very careful killing it in the tank .. something like that could start a crash.. very toxic when dieing

I had some of that sponge on my clam and it grew to the point that the clam couldn't open and close. If you cover it from the light it will recede.

Is that one from tank?

Have you tried:
covering it with a plastic bag?
brushing it with a toothbrush?
kalk paste?

i have not tried toothbrush. i wanted to avoid the trouble of taking all the rocks out etc. i only tried scrapting it while still in the tank. i have no tried anything else (yet).

that will be tough considering its on multiple rocks. i guess there's no predator for this sponge?

Try taking a rock out and expose it to the air, most sponges will not tolerate the exposure.

the problem is some of these rocks have corals on them..i didnt want to add stress to the corals ;/

I wonder if you inject them with air (maybe a pin and pump from a basketball)if that would work, just thinking out loud.

interesting thought. i might give it a shot, however, there isn't much dept to it at all..it hugs the rock extremely close.
