Is Prestone driveway heat still safe?

I used Prestone drivesway heat years back for calcium supplementation. I read that formula has since changed, is it still safe? Anyone still using it without negative effects.

Thanks

Thanks Paul. Jim I believe Prestone driveway heat is produced by the same company as peladow. Prestone driveway heat is however more concentrated which helps with our application.

I have heard that Pedaldow and Preston are in fact the same. But to clarify your “more concentrated” comment, the aforementioned products are anhydrous….that is, without bound water. The Dow Flakes, which no one can find, are with water attached (hydrous). If you were to follow Randy’s recipe, and using Dow Flakes, you would need 2 ½ cups to one gallon of RO/DI water. With the anhydrous form, you only need 2 cups to one gallon of RO/DI water. So “more concentrated” is actually with less water….so maybe you could say more concentrated….that’s a marketing thing.

This would be something cool to do at one of the meetings. Have a class , so that if anyone is unsure on how to do it on their own , they will learn on how to do it the correct way by the guys/gals that do it every couple months.

Paul I'm sure I have asked this before but fit clarity's sake. Do you mix 2 cup with 1 gal of water or do you mix 2 cups and enough water to bring it up to a gal.

I have been using the BRS calcium and always added enough water to bring it up to a gal of solution. I'm out if BRS and my next batch will be with the Prestone. While we are in it I have the same question as far as mixing the arm and hammer after baking. Thanks.

For prestone or baked baking soda I add it to a gallon container then top if off with water. The prestone dissolves easily, but to get the baking soda to fully dissolve you have to heat it up.

The Kreeper said it....you bring it up to one gallon.

I typically add about half the water to the jug, then add the dry mix and then bring it up to one gallon.

EDIT TO ADD: Just noted that saltkreeper specifically mentioned baking soda. If you are using baking soda, it’s solubility isn’t as good as soda ash. I would suggest using half the amount if you are doing a baking soda “Alk” solution. If you are going to “cook” the baking soda to produce soda ash, no problem dissolving the full amount in a gallon of RO/DI water.

But Mag flakes comes in a big bag eventhoug is cheap how often do you dose?
