Is this Cyanobacteria?

Well, it's been a few days now. I'll be watching it closely and now that I know what it is I won't let it go as long. At this point I'm still too scared to dose Kalk so I'm definitely not ready to start with redslime remover or chemiclean...

How are you making out on your cyano battle?

So far, so good. It seemed to be isolated to one general area. I manually removed (netted) what I could, went back with a siphon and did about 15% WC and now I'm just watching to see if it starts again or I missed anything. I let it go as while not knowing what it was - won't make that mistake again but I expect 1-2 more times b/c I sure I missed some

Usually isolated areas are due to low flow in that area. If you can, adjust a pump without taking flow from somewhere else

well, looks like it's back - same spot. It's not changing color yet but there is an area of the sand that appears to be forming a patch. I'll have to net it out tonight but I'm in a holding pattern with my NSW - I have a QT running and I had to change my salinity in my mixing drum - I'm pulling that out night and I'll make up 30 new gallons of RO/Di and I should have new-NSW by Thursday night/Friday morning for a WC and that way I can siphon out anything missed by the net. On the one hand it seems weird that it keeps settling in the same spot but I guess the flow is weak there (and I'm sure I missed traces of it with the first attempt) so I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised, like everything else patience is the key….getting rid of it will take some time

I've also had this problem several times over, and if you take the time to manually remove this evil Cyano, it definitely helps.
I have noticed that every time I would try to feed my coral with phytoplankton, or smaller foods like that, the cyano would seem to eat it up and multiply rapidly!
Good luck

I made a vacuum out of 1/2" PVC and some hose. Actually pretty nifty if I do say. I picked up a siphon pump like you'd use to fill a kerosene heater for $4. I have to build that in for Vac.1.2. :)
Anyway that attempt to remove was more thorough. Hopefully I left less behind.
