I really can't see from the pictures, but it's ALL over my tank - including the walls. From my experience, it grows in mats and just expands and expands for as long as it has some type of object to grow on.
It grows over my calpura (no kidding..), rocks, tubes, glass, overflows. About the only thing it refuses to grow over is sand and heaters.

Turns out it is the GSP spawning. I found a bunch of pictures of it online. Curiously it happened the night of the full moon.
