Congrats on the build. Subscribed.

Tropic Eden Mini/Reef Flakes* - how many lbs would you order for this size tank? Do you plan on putting in the sand while cycling the tank with rock?

im looking to get about 60-80lbs of sand for a shallow bed. not looking to have a deep sand bed. i acquired live rock but im drying most of the pieces out, bleaching, and maybe doing an acid dip to clean it real good. I kept about 4 pieces of the rock alive with lots of different color coralline on it to seed the others. as far as cycling ill be using dr tims to help speed up the process.

If you guys need a extra set of hands, let me know. I'd be free to come down on Sunday and help out (It would take me a few hours to get down there though lol). Also, if you need any help setting up equipment, I'd be more then happy to lend a hand :)

thanks for the offer! I'll definitely let you know!

I purchased 90 lbs(3 bags) for my tank. I only used 2 bags, 60lbs. If your going for a shallow bed then 2 will be more then enough. My bed varies from about 1.5"-2.5".

Good to know John! what was your ratio of mini reef flakes and just the reef flakes?

I've been doing a little research looks like Caribsea Fuji Pink does not cause as much a sand storm as other sand and it's a fine sand that I like. Will the reef flakes, especially the mini, have problem with high flow SPS tanks?

The mini is slightly smaller grain then Fiji pink, regular reef flakes is slightly larger. IMO the tropic Eden sand is the best on the market.

I have used both on my 315g and after switching to the caribsea I can say that I liked the way the caribsea looked better. As far as sand storms go, there are too many variables from one tank to the next. Tank A could be fine but Tank B could one big storm depending on flow, power heads, rock structure...etc. I will say that I like just having enough sand to cover the glass.

The only question is, it looks to have the same footprint as the 120 48"x24" Is that right? why not go for the 120 and get the height. Or maybe that's the whole reason to not have the height? What is it judeo?
