Hey everyone, it’s been a while since my last update, so I wanted to share a quick progress report. It’s coming up on a year since setting up this tank, and it’s definitely been a journey full of ups and downs, instability, the dreaded ugliest and a few losses along the way. However, since October 2024, the tank seems to have found its stride, and things have been much more stable.

Initially, I was using All-For-Reef to manage the big three (calcium, alkalinity, magnesium), but Ive since transitioned to kalkwasser, incorporating a modified version of the ACI method. My main focus has been on maintaining pH rather than obsessing over alkalinity levels. Fortunately, alkalinity has stabilized within a range of 8.5 ~ 9.5 dKH, though it initially spiked to 11 ~ 12 dKH when I made the switch. Luckily, I didn’t experience any negative effects, so I decided to push through, and things have balanced out over time.

For trace elements, Ive been dosing Captiv8 trace elements, although I don’t t follow a strict regimen just dosing when I remember. I also add a drop of fluoride occasionally.

Right now, my main focus is tackling some hair algae and Aiptasia outbreaks, but overall, the tank is looking good and staying stable.
