Jenkinson's Aquarium photos and discussion.

It was nice to go into the basement and upstairs behind the large tanks to see the aquarium from the tank keeper's perspective. It is a lot of work keeping a reef tank. And with as many tanks as we saw, that takes a lot of work. Of not, it looked like sandy flooded the basement in around 44 inches or so of water. One wall was designed to breakaway, so the areas in the basement with all the tanks was covered by sand. They have to bring up pumps and equipment for storms. In fact, they already had sandbags covering one front door when we were there.
Thank you Mike and Nichole for inviting us over to your house afterwards.
Here are some pictures:

Here are a few more pictures from upstairs. Those are some huge protein skimmers. The fluidized bed filters were pretty nice as well. Note that nutrient export is largely accomplished by 30% seawater water changes. They bring is seawater into holding tanks in the basement and then transfer it into the tanks. Each major tank had its own filtration system.

Wow looks like you guys and most importantly the kids had a great time! Thanks again @Mark Shelly for putting this together. Also mike and Nikki for having people over afterwards!
It was a good event to bring children, although the real young one may not have got as much out of it. Unfortunately, I posted before importing the full images above and didn't see how to change that.
