Jgraz's march to 200DD

Sorry for the delay: The under the sink pump is the Liberty Pumps 404 automatic drain pump 1/3hp.

Right now the return pump is a blueline 55 and a 45 is running the manifold. Originally we had a 70 on there, but the Elos overflows are rated for such low flow, we took it off. We still have the 70 btw if you are interested, it was run for about 3 weeks and is fully cleaned and ready to go.

Thanks Mike. That's the same pump I am ordering as well. So good to know your having luck with it. I guess it holds up to the saltwater.

I will let you know about the pump also. I know the DD overflows can handle 700gph each, so 1400 there and another 700 to the frag tank. That 70 might just be perfect.
Thanks again.

I think are single overflow runs about maybe 300gph, so hence the down grade.

Holy low flow. I guess in reality that all well and good. Never thought a tank that size would only run one overflow especially so low.

Yeah we were all pretty shocked but it works, and the addition of one mp60 give me flow in the entire tank. I could probably add another pump, or if I went BB I could turn the 60 up, but then I would be worried about my fish.

I'll keep it in mind. In my 90 I run full blown. Probably even pushing it a bit over. It's pretty quiet, but once in a while it seems louder then other times.

I like running my return on the low side too, usually just 3-5x the displays volume. I then just add powerheads in the display to kick up the flow on the display.

John, when I had my DB80 Frag tank running I only had a 300gph pump on there and that was also feeding the chiller! haha overflow was soooo quiet!

Got the tank a couple of days ago. Gotta get the new bulkheads though.

Sorry I haven't been on the boards at all lately. Mike told me about the thread so I figured I would chime in. Order the ultraflex from flexpvc.com. There is no comparison between this stuff and spaflex. However, if you are just going through the wall regular pvc should be fine. I definitely recommend at least 2 pumps, one for the display and one for manifold. What headloss are you expecting for the display? If you are going just through the wall the bl55 is plenty of pump. You might have to dial it back a bit. Shoot for 300-400 per overflow. Setting up the fuge to use as a recirc can be problematic at times. I highly recommend not drilling the 90 for external pumps. I have never been a fan of glass sumps, especially drilling them. Consider the adhi 60 fuge model, or something custom for added volume.
Any questions feel free to ask I'll try to keep an eye on this thread.

ps. I don't like to flex directly into a bulkhead. Use a small piece of pvc and then a fitting to do the transition.

Ethan,
Hopefully these pics make sense of what I'm thinking. I've mixed the idea involving the 90 so that's out.

Here is a rough pic of my basement setup. I want to run this all on a manifold with my existing internal pump. It handles a very similar set up now. Though I'm not opposed to using an external pump as well if you have one to recommend.

Here is a sketch of how my filtration will be positioned in relation to the DT upstairs. The basement under the DT room is only accessible from outside. Don't know why the previous owners did it this way but they did. Wife refuses to link the two basements but I will be able to run the lines through the floor and into the sump area via a basement window that was remade into a way for duct work to run into the room. One of those vents will be completely blocked by the DT stand so it will be my way into the sump room. I will be using the flex that you recommend. An external pump to run the DT only. The lift will be about 12-13 ft. What do you think pump wise?

Thanks in advance.

So looking at the curve for that Blueline 55 Im thinking I'll be pushing about 800GPH after loss. That would bring me to 400 or so at each overflow. That should keep them nice and quiet. And I'll be able to run that pump at full flow.

In the DT I plan on a good amount of flow. I have 2 MP-40's which may or may not both end up in the DT. It really depends on how I set up the scape. I want nothing on the right side of the glass and the left will be against the wall. It leaves me the back only. Im also looking at the Sicce Voyagers as well for flow.

Today I picked up a stand and an Avast ATO in a big coral for equipment trade with Empire. So I was able to get the Frag tank in place not close to running yet though. But this is where that will be.

Also Im ordering the pump for the utility sink so that should be good to go soon.

That's it.

Sorry, I understand now. 13' to the top of the display tank or the bulkheads? For the DT upstairs you may want to think about the 70. Your probably looking at about 20'+ of head, and the 55 is doing about 600gph then. You are right on the edge between them. What internal pump do you have? mag18? Looks like a solid plan.

I figure the 13" is to the top of the tank. About 11ish' to the bulkheads. I was looking again at the 55 vs 70 and think I agree with you. Do these pumps take well to restricting flow with ball valves?

The internal pump is a Rio Hyperflow-32. As a quick change to the manifold I have decided to pull the Refugium off of the manifold and tap off one of the overflows from the DT to feed that, then have that overflow to the sump. Figure its better to send dirty water to the fuge instead of having "cleaned" water going back through it.

Make sense?

John

PS Thanks again

Little more progress.

Last night I finished the utility sink.

This morning I worked a little more of the stand. And found out that my floor has a low area at the front right corner. It sits about 1/4" off. So a shimming I will go.

Also I picked up the stock tank yesterday and hope to get a couple of 40b's tomorrow to use as a refugium and circulation tank.
More to come later
