I've used that technique to frag chalice corals. But I use a razor blade to cut the flesh from the top side.

i have a 20long tank goin up soon. i have been thnikin of trying plates...maybe if they do good i will give it a shot... just dosent seem like the kinda coral you can cut in half(or eighths)and have them regrow into normal ones....neat

They'll regrow into circles it just takes a long time. I've always to buy Calfo's Book of Coral Propagation but it's gotten to expensive and I think most of the techniques are on the internet now anyways.
