Note sure what the current rates are, but a year ago when I got my Fios TV & 35/35 Internet, one of the biggest reason I switched was that it was cheaper than Comcast. Apples to apples it was a $65/month difference for the first 6 months and $45 after that.

I think they have flexible plans based on what you get as in how many tv's and how many get box's and comp, phone etc.But I went with the box's for 2 tv's a splitter for my sons(till x mas and getting him a nice HD tv-shhh) and comp and phone for $79per mnth which beat cable which was $130 per mnth apples to apples, except now I get great reception and FASTER than fast download on the comp. And no contract and price good for 2 yrs..

I think the best thing is that after all is said and done, there will be some competition. Right now I don't have any choice and Comcast knows it. I bet I'll be able to get a better deal once Fios becomes available.

Heres the real problem with Fios, truth is, the phone company spent so much money when they implemented it I believe they over extended themselves a little. There losing so much money every day because people are getting rid of there standard POTS lines.
Heard the same exact thing out of a Comcast technician 2 months ago.

Hey Tanks, I agree that I heard some bad stories in the beggining when Fios first came out. I really havn't heard any recently.

Just as a comparison, I am paying 200-205 a month with 2 HD box's and one of the real cheapo boxes for a room Im never in. I have every movie channel(starz, hbo, cinemax, shotime, epix, redzone, etc.) My internet speed is 35mbps up and 35mbps down and I also have the phone. Heres the kicker though, because my wifes cell phone is verizon, I could combine everything on 1 bill and that is included in the $200 a month.

Hardware can definatly affect performance but the Im assuming that the increase in your speed was due to new hardware, not the new wireless N. The reason for this is wireless G runs at 54mbps, while N is around 100mbps. Verizon and comcast are both runnning around 20-30 mbps depending on the plan.

There losing so much money every day because people are getting rid of there standard POTS lines. Knowing some people that work for Verizon, they openly admit that Fios is now on the back burner and they are not pushing it out as aggresive as they were when it first came out. It seems that their 4g network is their top priority and I've even heard some rumors theres a test bed in Texas that is testing out 4G to the house. I could be wrong on that as it is just hear say but it wouldnt surpise me, knowing that 4g can get upto 1gbps for a stationary building.

Yea, your pricing seems pretty comparable to mine considering I have 2 more boxes than you do. Being able to add the cell phone in there would certainly make a difference though. We have 5 cell phones on our Verizon account, so that would be interesting to see what kind of package deal they could give us. I checked though and FIOS isn't availabe at my house yet. :(

The only hardware change I made to get my speed increase was buying a new router. With the old one, I topped out around 16Mbps. I just did like 5 different speed tests (different websites) and one was high 35's, the rest were all over 36 Mbps. However, my upload was under 2 Mbps on all of them. I don't upload much so that's not a big deal for me, but I think a 35/35 up/down would certainly be a better internet overall.

I can see where that might be true about them concentrating on the 4G network too. With AT&T going strong on that they needed to compete in the wireless market because that's a big chunk of their revenues. Most of their internet customers don't have much other choice except cable, so their internet business won't suffer much if the FIOS network doesn't get pushed out faster.

Fios isn't available here. Just a note if you utilize an alarm service, unless you have a maintenance agreement - there will be a fee associated since the alarm box has to be re-routed from the old copper line (or cable) to this new fiber optic line.

that stated if the terms were right I'd seriously consider FIOS. if only because I can't stand what James dolan has done to the NY KNICKS. Cablevision. lol.

I was told the same thing after a lot of digging out of pure desperation and a deep rooted hatred of vile comcast. Originally I was told (by the NJ BPU) that NJ was 1 of only 2 states to have negotiated state-wide terms and would have covered the state by 2012. That was extended 2x and most recently Verizon pled hardship and will not meet even the second extension deadline. Basically if you don't have it available don't hold your breath and, just one guys opinion ...if you do you are VERY lucky. As for Comcast and the nightmare they've been, I'll save that story but suffice it to say our experiences can be summed up in an 11 page (not a typo) documented list of problems over about 9 months with triple play. We still have comcast TV b/c of lack of option (I tried giving up Phillies and Flyers a few years back - never again so can't do a dish) but we actually use DSL just to avoid comcast. Whew, sorry for the rant.

I pay 190 for my fios. 3 boxes with whole house DVR all movies channels 35/up and download speeds. Plus international plan that allows my wife like 300 minutes to Italy for 5bucks. I have had great experience with customer service. Recently I called with question about service/pricing and girl bundled everything under the sun together to drop the price to under what it was before with better new package. Even if you are happy with what you have I would suggest calling and seeing if you can bundle things together if you haven't done it lately.

I feel your pain. We just need more competition in the area period.

Also, being a flyers fan I worried about losing the flyers as well but get this.......Fios carries comcast 8.:disillusionment:
