Kelvin level on MH

I bought a new tank setup about a month ago that has MH pendant light. This is the first time that I have dealt with MH and I have a question. I was thinking of going with 14k bulbs because I plan on moving towards sps and clams in that tank. Should I do that or just stick with the 12.5k lights? Any guidance would be well aprreciated.

That would mostly depend on the color preference you'd like your tank to look. The higher the Kelvin, the bluer the look.

I've used 10K, 14K, 15K, & 20K MHs in my SPS tanks. I've found that I get the best growth out of 10Ks, however, I supplement them with actinic VHOs to get the color I like (similar to the color of 14K & 15K MHs).

If you're just starting out, I would recommend using 10Ks initially to foster good growth rates and then depending on the overall color you're looking for, try a higher Kelvin bulb when the 10Ks reach the end of their life.
