Killing algae on zoa rocks

So I have a recurring problem with a small zoanth group (bout 20 polyps on a small rock). Algae kept popping up and I kept trimming and plucking it. Got tired of the continuous effort and let it sit for a week, then an emergency came up and I let it go for another week. By the time I took notice again, the rock was so covered with thick algae that I couldn't see half the zoas.

Was about to cut losses and trash the rock, then thought, as it was a loss anyway, I might as well try the peroxide method I had stumbled across on the net:

I put the rock in a small bucket with enough tank water to cover it (32 oz)
Then, while swirling the bucket I added 16-24 oz of 3% hydrogen peroxide (it was a lot)
I let it sit for about 30-45 minutes, and when I got back to it everything was bubbling to some extent, including zoas (i figured they were goners at this point).
Pulled the rock out, rinsed it with a glass of tank water, placed it back into tank. Some algae was still present and zoas were so closed up I was sure they were dead.
3 days later there is zero algae and, no S&%t, the zoas look healthier then they ever have - so much so that I'm wondering if a peroxide bath is actually healthy for them.

No pics, never thought it would work.

Anyway, figured I'd share for future reference.
