Koi pond maybe

Long story short bought a house last year with a ton of open space spent almost everyday well almost everyday outside cleaning and cutting and moving things around looks a 110% better so I'm ready for a koi pond
One of the things the old owners left behind was 4 pallets of stone from slate to round rock cobble stone just a lot rock.
I have aways wanted a koi pond but have no idea where to start from what I have seen there is usually a lot of rock involved :) that's why I mentioned the pallets of rock Except for a large hole in the ground and power I'm lost So I know there is a couple pond guys here so here's my questions
Depth does it matter deeper the better?
Size if I'm going to do it it's going to be big what do I need to know about size anything?
Liner what can I use pond liner? Someone said plumbing liner :/
Return pump
UV?
I wanted to start this weekend just getting the hole dug and pond laid out rock and maybe work on the electric and maybe low voltage for lights. I will not be adding any fish until spring just wanted a head start
Thanks for advice and info

Hey Dan. Take a look at aquascapes website. They make most of the pond products I use. They should have some YouTube videos as well that should help out. As far as depth I would shoot for 30-36 inches, this comes into play for the winter as the pond won't freeze all the way through. Around our area you want at least a 3000 gph pump if you want to run it all year. If you won run it all year you need a deicer to simply keep a hole in the ice for gas exchange. Without a hole in the ice your fish will most likely not make it through the winter. Any more questions text me if you still have my number if not pm me and I'll send it to you. Would be happy to give you some advice.

Mine has only been up for 2 summers, I'm no expert. You do want at least a side that's 36" deep minimum. I had a submersible filter with a mag-drive 18 last summer. Was a pain to clean & it was green most of the summer. This year I turned a stock tank into a container bog & ditched the submersible filter. It was clear for most of the summer but got pretty dirty & then the water lost most it's visibility. I don't run the pump in the winter, just pull it. When I take the pump out I'll figure a method the clean it. Oh. Mine is around 8'x4' (about 400-500 gallons) with lillies, comets & subunkins. I was thrilled it survived the winter from h**l last year, lost no fish.

I used a regular laguna pond liner (10'x15'). Not sure what other stuff can be used. Just remember to account for the side depth and a 1-2 foot overlap when picking a size. Better to go bigger. I didn't place any rocks inside, well not on purpose. Just used then around the edge on th liner. You should make sure the pond edge is a little higher than the ground around it, so runoff with fertilizer and such doesn't spill into it.

I think that covers the basics, but feel free to ask more. Good luck with it.

I used a billboard sign and lap it over 3 times, it has been up for 4 years and not a problem. The cost of the sign was 60.00.

Just let me know man. If I can find some time I would love to help. For parts check out Aquarius irrigation supply. They are on blackwood barnsboro rd. I'm pretty sure they carry a majority of the aquascapes products.
